My New Marine Tank Log.

Humm, maybe we're mincing words here or I'm not seeing the picture correctly... When you refer to bubble box, what are you referring to?

The Bit that Pulls out at the top, has has a tube leading into a clear box on it

What bit isn't fine? nothing else is adjustable :|?

Oh ok, it just looks like the unit is sitting a little high in the water in general, but it could just be the lack of scale or reference :)

Water change.

Well to keep my tank at a reasonable temperature i have a surface fan as my room gets quite hot.
So im loosing up to 3cm of water in a day or three due to evaporation, when i loose these few cm i keep topping it up with ro water just to keep the saltinty from concentrating, is this considered a water change or must i physically change the water on top of the evaporation?

lol, trying to avoid water changes, no because fish poop doesnt evaporate, and all the other bad stuff, u must change it ur self, it would be nice if you didnt tho..

Ooh thanks, na i wasn't trying to avoid them, just researching weather i needed to buy more water for physical water change aswell, but surely fish poop would sit at the bottom and water changes would be form the top?

As the waste breaks down it is processed by the tank filters from ammonia to nitrite and then nitrate. Some nitrate will be consumed (occasionally all) but then there are other pollutants being released which affect the tank in other ways, such as calcium, Alk and phosphate levels. Water changes help keep your levels more stable.

Just to totally take this thread off topic for a moment, but are your walls brick or plasterboard Joe?

Luckily all mine are brick so there was no issue with wall mounting the lights. If you have plasterboard walls, then you are going to run into problems. One solution would be to bolt the light brackets on a strip of wood (3" x 0.5"), then mount the wood onto the wall, picking up the timber uprights.

Just a thought.

AK :)

What does it matter how high the bubble box thing is?
this is my tank atm, Yes i know the polystyrene elevating the lid looks a bodge job, but i have to to fit in the Aquac on, ill be getting some MH lights Mounted on wall soon so the lid will go.

Metal Halides!!!! How big is your tank? L-W-H and US gallons? It looks too small....I'm not sure, just saying, small tank, REALLY HOT lights, means warm water, which means above 84F, your corals will bleach.

above 86 actually is when problems start, a tank is never too small for halides tho

Ok another question, Ive had my tank up and running for 2 weeks now, the water levels are fine, but ive only got 40kg of live rock in my 130 litre tank, do i need more live rock before i can introduce CUC

I can tell you now thats not 40kgs of live rock!

36" in lengh
18" Depth
14" thick

130 liters wich is about 30 Us gallons, ill just have the lights mounted not to close to the water, and buy surface fans?

Must be 40 lbs of live rock then it was £1 per kg/lb, im crap with that stuff, its £40 worth of live rocks thats about $79
