Heya,

Today i went and collected 2 german blue rams (male and female), I put them in their tank and after around 3 hours the two have coloured up unbelievably! They look around 6 months old, and i didn't expect them to color up randomly this much (they certaily weren't at the LFS =/) and now, as i watch them, they swim together, and the male will "peck" or to put in in our terms, he looks like he's flirting with her, and he will colour up alot, its actully really nice to watch :)

Is this normal? or am i overreacted (over-excited :D) They are FAB fish atm, and i can't keep my eyes of them :)

Ill try and up some piccies :)

Thanks

Baguuu :good: :hyper:

they probably colored up so fast because your water is hopefully better than your LFS's and it sounds like your male is nudging your female to get her to lay eggs which will brighten there color even further if they are mating keep good water quality and they should breed easily

Male and female rams do have a habit of pairing up smile.gif Are you 100% certain they are male and female?

Heya guys,

I'm sure they are male and female, the female has a more rounded head, no black on the little front fins (sorry about the vague description) and has a pinkish belly, the male has a darker patch on him, black on the fin, more colorful aswell :) Thats nice to hear aswell! i love them already; such a joy to watch; if they breed i will be extatic :D

any signs i can look out for if she is going to lay eggs?

thanks guys :D

I have an update, good or bad; i don't know =/

I watched them this morning, and the female is swimming at the front and the male elsewhere, that male looks like he goes to chase her, and she swims away, he looks like he is nudgiing her belly with his head, they have got loads of color; but i hope he doesn't attack her =(

bump

this behaviour is carrying on =/ im not sure about genders either =/

it looks like who i think is the male, is "pecking" her anus =/ and she will have a spasm, and then face the other way =/

the male also sometimes looks to move her to a certain corner of the tank

put some slate in the tank and expect eggs. but the fry wont really survive the first few times, rams are hopeless at getting it right first time but they get better. but hey it might not be the first time :hey:

As Truck said, try putting some slate in. If you haven't got slate, the anything with a flat surface like bogwood/cobbles will be fine.

hey truck, I have got some slate in :)

The male ( I hope ) is really chasing her ( I hope) around alot =(

Maybe some eggs in the morning :) they are also a tad young! It's like teenage pregnancy XD

the females can spasm quite rapidly, but its nothing to worry about. the male is just showing off by bullying her

i have no experence with rams but i hope you have some nice fry off them. please get some photos up :snap:

hey!

I hope they are male and female! If they lay eggs I will be extatic!!!!!!

I'll see how it goes in the morning! And I will deffo upload some piccies ;)

No eggs yet, he still chases her now and then ;)

they hide under the slate cave =/ is this a sign :D

my male killed two females and another male :/ they did lay eggs but they kept eating them, from what I have read it may take a few tries till they get the idea.

thanks for that gouken :D i hope that doesn't happen lol!

UPDATE: the female is hiding in my plant, and pops her head out now and then, tomorow i will upload some pics, to make sure about sexes, if they are both male or both female, i shal pick up the opposite sex :)
