My New Blue Acara

Decided to resurrect this topic, was taking some pics today for another reason and snapped off a few of my acara. I did decide to keep him afterall, and I'm glad I did, he's a beautiful fish and very mellow (aside from the disappearance of a few guppies!) Its now about six weeks later and he is still showing no signs of turning into a GT. He is showing more distinctive barring on his body, pretty much all the time unless he's stressed when I've cleaned the tank or something. In real life the barring looks a lot darker than in these pics. I hope to find a female for him soon (if he is in fact a male, we kind of got distracted from the original question in this thread!

Here he is now:

Thank you. He is definitely one of my favourite fish. Can anyone tell me if he's definitely a he and what do I need to look for in a female?

defo not a GT. although may not be 100% a blue acara either.... the thing is with aequidens species is that they will cross breed and to find a 100% genuine blue acara these days is quite a hard thing. im not saying it is but theres a chance...

but not a GT and a stunning fish, nice find :good:

Completely agree with this. The head shape says blue acara to me but the colour (mainly the orange/yellow stripe on the dorsal fin) says not.

Most likely is a hybrid I think.

Lovely fish whatever he is though.
