My Nano Journal!

Is that tank the Wave Nano Cubo? I have the same tank, ordered it from the STM shop online. Just a word of warning if it is, IME, the filter is not great - I am using it for freshwater and one night it stopped working for no apparent reason and I had huge issues with ammonia and nirtite - my filter bacteria essentially died. I know you have live rock as filtration as well but just keep and eye on it.

thankyou for that information i will keep an eye on it :D

uys, its been a while i know, but the tank is now on its way to becoming a reef!

I went today to my LFS (aquahome near leyland preston lancs) and bought some more live rock (finally!) which is figi liverock and of the highest quality. Im now ready for tank enhabitants and have been looking around for something different yet easy to keep. I was wondering, are purple lobsters reef safe? and if so are they happy in a nano of my size? I was also looking at arrowhead crabs, however i dont need to research to know these guys are aggressive, as they looked seriously hardcore, as much as i did want one!

any ideas on what i could get guys?

also, im going to buy another wave solaris lighting unit ( same as i have now) and then i should be able to have double the lighting. please tell me, am i ok with mushrooms with the lighting i have now? ive done my research i just want to double check! i also want to buy a calcium test kit to see what my levels are as i havent got a clue at the moment and want my water tested :S.

can you please give me a rough idea of a cleanup crew that would be happy in this size tank? i dont want to over/under do it lol.

and one last question, ive taken the carbon filter out as its been there since december and feel it may be giving toxins back in if im not careful. ive taken a photo of my filteration unit to give you some ideas of what i have space wise, and was wondering if you could recommend what i could put in the space i have in my filter. LR rubble? or glax stone? please help!

anyways guys, whats a post without pics:

also, can you guys please tell me if my tank is suitable for a fuge? and how could i go about doing this?

thakns in advance, summat fishy

summat fishy,

We are reading your posts, dont loose faith.
On your question of CUC......I have a 48litre tank with 2 x red legged, 2 x blue legged hermits and 3 x turbo snails.
They have been muching away nicley for 1 week and cut my algea levels down nicely, BUT my bristle worms have helped more than the crabs the last two nights. My tank never looked as bad as yr piccies (sorry buddy) but they are clearing alot of the crap which is from the LR / Live sand cycle.

Looking at your piccies, I really hope the LR rock is on the glass NOT sitting on the sand, I'd hate to think that a crab might burrow underneath and find himself flattened by 6kg of LR.

Overall........get your CUC crew in before the tank grows legs and walks off the cabinet. Fellow marine'rs here and LFS have different views on when to add CUC, but it's now time.

finally a post! i do have faith :)

rite so would you think 2 turbos and 1 hermit prehaps? yeah lol it is very dirty... but my water parameters are fine haha. rite, this weekend it looks like its time to get some CUC!

to answer your question, yes the rock is on the tank bottom not the sand so its all good :)

hi guys, its been months since i last added to this thread, but now my nano is pretty much establsihed, and is ready for corals! its current inhabbitants are a boxer shrimp, a tangerine clown and the usual clean up crew consisting of turbos, cerith, and hermits. the filteration is very simple with a sponge to catch all the bits (cleaned daily) and a carbon sponge, the rest is left to the life rock and sand. so here are the pics guys, sorry there not the best but you will get the idea :)

any opinions on what i could add next would be appreciated (if anything)

update! sorry for the serious lack of posts and these pictures as they are poor quality but awaiting my digital camera to get fixed so will be able to get some better ones soon, the tank is doing great got many different frags in there and critters including a firefish, emerald crab and the usual cleanup crew except turbos as i have very little success with them... i have also upgraded the filteration to an external Fluval 105 which not only is very silent, but doing wonders for my water quality as its only a 7 gallon! i do weekly water changes of about 10% and dose coral calcium and grower (3 drops of each) nitrates and nitrite 0, SG 1.023 - 24

hope you like :D

Looks pretty neat SF

Looks really nice :good:
What is the green plant you have on the left?

Just noticed you have a firefish, take care with it they can jump when startled.

sorry ive not posted in a while, my computer broke and it took ages for me to fix it but now im back!

yes im aware the firefish can jump and the tank is covered when im not in the room so its all good :) erm the green plant is some kind of seaweed i picked up from my LFS i only got given a tiny bit but its grown like wild fire! it came in with the LFS's new shipment of cleaner shrimps and i was given a piece about 5cm long about 3 weeks ago and look at it! i also have a flame scallop but not too sure on it... beenfeeding marine snow but i cant tell when hes feeding!

regards, summat fishy
