A reject at my LPS, over the past week no one has really been able to determin what he is. Here are some pictures I just took to help.

note: his dorsal fin and cadual fin are NOT connected and when he's not flaring the dorsal usually stands up like a little shark fin.

I had a betta just like him from Petco. I always thought it was a delta. My thinking was, when VT's flare, their tales dont fully extend out and the top of the tail kind of droops down. When that betta flares its tail is fully extended. Either that or a super delta...one of the two have a tail that is less than a 180* angle.

Please...correct me if I am wrong...still learning how to tell the difference between betta tails that are longer.

possibly a vt, within the vt tail type there is alot of variety. i would almost say that hes a delta because of how far his tail opens up, but he probably falls into his own catagory. regardless thogh, hes a nice looking fish

I'm not sure what tail type he is but he sure is a nice looking fish  I'd love to find one like that around me :)

He's gawgeous! :hey: I lurve Melanos, to death.

To me, he apears to be a Combie Delta, his finnage is very cute! His caudal fin is super-long, which reminds me of a VT, so he probably has that in his bloodlines somewhere... If you do the tail-split test, it looks like he's not a VT. Very nice find, either way!!

Also, OT, but what is that moss you have in his tank? Is that willow moss? It looks reeaally nice  you can send me some for my spawn tank if ya want! hehe

Thsi thread is driving me nuts :fun: Because it is doubtful that that we are gonna get a definite answer. I would go with the delta/combtail theory. But I still think there is some vt in there too. ninjaboy to answer your question they are both under 180, super delta is just closer to 180 than a regular delta. Goodluck thelastbetta in getting your answer, but I don't think it's gonna happen!

It's Java Moss. I got it at my LPS for around 5.99 for a batch, my bettas love it though, hehe should have seen when I first put it in there, they went nuts pulling and nipping at it.

I guess he's just a mutt since no one can give an accurate guess. :S

Mutts are normally the best pets. Since he came from a lfs it's pretty well certain that his bloodline isn't going to be a great one. That's awesome that you found something so unique that noone can really figure it out for certain.

Wow, he's lovely! Looks like a VT to me, but has very nice finnage. To qualify as a delta the tail has to be symmetrical when fully extended, and in the pics it looks like his droops down ever so slightly

I'd say he's a roundtail/fantail with CT ancestory.

I wiah people would start to recognise the roundtails as they should be a tail type in their own right. They certainly don't look like any VT i know. VT by definition has rays with a gentle curve downwards to almost a point. Delta has perfectly streight rays extending to a clear point.

Besides aren't most wild bettas roundtails? Mine sure are.

Ahhh rant over :D
