Hi all,

Last night I came home from work to find my male Krib all flared up with his colours darkened, he was hovering around the middle depths of the tank staying pretty still. Here he is as I found him:

As he moved aside I saw this.....

Then 'Mum' showed her face!

I'm wrapped! I had hoped that these two would pair up, I had built caves for them to 'set the mood' but instead they chose the newly arranged and positioned Java Fern! I guess they approve of the new scape!

I only hope that the Guppies, Platies and Ram manage to stay out of Dad's way. He only seems bothered by the Bristlenoses so far!

Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any tips for me on successful raising of Krib babies? Im guessing it's pretty much a leave them be and the parents will sort them out? I do have a 10 gallon fry tank running with guppy juv's growing out in so I can re-arrange and separate the problems if need be... Any advice would be great.

Cheers and thanks for looking,

JS

Wait till the fry are free swimming then take them into a spare tank, but have something ready for the babies ie a shop to take them to etc.

yer i would get another tank for the fry. by the look of it they are happy and will probley have more in the future.

I just left my last batch in the tank and the Hoplo Catfish had a feast lol.

Once mine were free swimming, I let them stay wtih the parents for three weeks. This is a good idea because once the fry are removed the male may want to breed. If you take them out too early the male may hurt the not ready to breed female. Let them be parents for a few weeks then remove them to a 10 gallon or something and then the process will repeat (almost guarenteed).

Oh man what a cool suprise!!! How are the fry doin? Thats a cool shot of the momma and eggs. I just bought a male and female today. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Hi Dirtyfishtank,

Unfortunately those eggs were eaten. It appears to be a common first time parenting thing!

It's all good though because as of yesterday they are now guarding a cave with the second batch of eggs. With a bit of luck they should get it right this time!

Crossed fingers,

JS
