about 6-7 weeks ago we had mollie fry in our tank, 11 in total ( well what we found in the morning anyway!) but two died in a couple of days,so left us with 9, so we went & bought a hatchery & fished them out & popped them in, they were happy enough in the tank floating about with all the other fish, 2 of them were looking a bit small so we went & bought another hatchery and put them in, so thats 1 hatchery with 7 in & 1 with 2 in, we woke up this morning and every one of the 7 are dead on the bottom of the hatchery!! the other 2 are fine ( up to now) all the other fish in the tank are thriving with no probs at all, how can this happen, all the 7 fry in the hatchery all die at once??? whats gannin on???

I have this problem with one of my platys, i continued to breed her with the desired male and when she dropped I provided the care they needed but all of her drops die within a week or so, its down to the genetics of your parent fish not being as compatable as they should be, its like having a deformaty inside, they look fine but whats going on inside is a different matter and they finally pass away. it cant be helpped but if you have more than one pair of mollies you will soon have fry that survive. :good:

I've lost both of my betta spawns so far. It happens. You do what you can and hope for the best. Better luck next time.

thanks for reply, what im actually saying is that the whole lot died overnight (except the 2 in the other hatchery) they didn't just die over a period of time 1 here then a couple the next day, all 7 in 1 night, just find that strange

I had, I think, 7 die in one night. I had 10 originally. Then 2 died, the next day the 7 died, and the one remaining one died one day short of his 1 month birthday.

Was the trap dirty? They need their water to be v.clean to be kept in such crampt conditions im afraid :S The same thing happened to me once, i had 13 guppy fry in a breeding trap and i was left with 3. Ever cince i got a 10 gal tank for the fry with a sponge filter and heater, you dont get any deaths :D And they wont get stunted too

yes it was clean & floating about in the tank, everything was fine then they all died overnight

Did you give them plenty to eat? A combo of crushed up to powder fish flakes and some frozen brime shrimp? I even throw in a alge wafer too.

I only have mollies in my tank so I gave up on the breeding nets and I keep everyone well fed....I have so many babies I don't know what to do with them all...ugh

Well what are your water parameters? It could be bad genes, but iv rasied malphormed livbearer fry in the fast without trouble. It could be that your parameters are a little high, fry are sensitive to this, so while you might not notice death or odd behavior in your adult fish, the fry would be very subseptable.

Another thing could be stress. correct me if i misunderstand, but its sounds like the fry were born in the main tank, and then fished out and put into a breeder. purhaps the stress of transport was too much, who knows?

The best success iv had with raising fry though is when i let them grow in the main tank. Fry are very instinctive, and excelent at not being eaten.
