hey guys, just thought i'd share a quick story with you.
one of my friends came to me the other day and told me that she was having problems with her goldfish, she'd had this tank for about 2 months now and 4 fish have died so far - each time she replaced them so that there is always 3 goldfish in the the tank. her boyfriend is into fish keeping aswell and bought her a filter for the tank, which is alot more than your average goldfish gets.
she told me that she cleans them out at least once a week, sometimes more (shes abit of a clean freak and as soon as there is a speck of algae/gunk she cleans them out).
i asked her to tell me exactly what she does each time she cleans them out and this is what she said......
''i half fill the bath, put the fish in there to have a swim for abit while i clean out their tank. i empty all of the water from the tank, clean the algae off the tank, refill the tank and put the fish back after about 20 minutes in the bath''
i couldn't beleive it!! i knew she was a novice at fishkeeping, but i thought it would be common sense that the chemicals used for cleaning the bathroom would be dangerous for fish!! it turns out that her boyfriend hadn't explained the concept of partial waterchanges and that she cleans the fish out while he isn't there!
i have since put her straight!!
