My Fluval Edge Tank - With Fish!

Gaz, just a thought, what colour is the tank water without the drops put in? Is there any way that it might be a tad green and affecting the colour? After all, the yellow 0 reading we all strive for isn't too far from the lower shades of green if the water is a little that way inclined. Maybe it looks clear in the environment of the tank, but what does it look like next to a test tube of clear water?

Edit: I've just read on another thread that adding a bit of fish food can help a stalled cycle as it gives the bacteria some nutrients that pure ammonia doesn't. Can't hurt can it?

The water is clear as a bell, especially after I did a water change only a few days back.

If I get chance to go to a LFS I'll grab some fish food but I dunno when I'll get there, maybe the weekend & hopefully by then something might have kicked in.

Really hoping that I've not gone back to square one, time will tell

I think I'm going to have to do a water change, my cycle has come to a complete standstill and food didn't make the slightest of a difference.

Yesterday:

Day 37: (Did not test) - Wasn't home to test

Today:

Day 38: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.2 / Ammonia: 2.00ppm / Nitrite: 0.00ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test)

Day 39: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.2 / Ammonia: 2.00ppm / Nitrite: 0.00ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test)

I'm close to stopping at the moment.

Feel like emptying the tank & either leaving it for a while or re-filling & starting again.

This ammonia `plateau` is really beginning to #101## me off.

Hang in there, good things come to those who wait. :good:

Day 40: Ammonia: 2.00ppm - Not wishing to waste any more reagents I've only tested ammonia levels

Day 41: Ammonia: 2.00ppm - Only tested ammonia levels

10 days of no ammonia processing now, something's wrong & it don't look good.

Who shall I call?

Tankbusters

At least you can see the funny side of it!

I really dunno what else to do apart from laugh Josh!

I tested my tap water again, just in case there was some ammonia in that since I started. Highly unlikely but I had to test it for my own peace of mind, zip, nadda, zilch ammonia.

So the source is deffo in the tank, but I can't believe it's taking this long to process.

Totally baffled, when I thought I was so close.

Just out of interest, what kind of filter are you using and what media does it have in it? As you know I'm in a very similar situation and have been trying to work out what could have gone wrong. Like you I have had Ammonia being converted to Nitrite, which started fairly quickly so my tapwater must have enough bacs to get started, my PH has remained over 8. I'm now starting to wonder if somehow I have set up my filter incorrectly or something daft like that...

I know there's a lady, Kportea who had a cycle that didn't do anything for 6 weeks, at least I `had` movement.

One thing I've noticed today, as I moved my heater more towards the middle of the tank was that the rubber suckers & the top of the heater are covered in a slimey, flakey gunk.

It's yellow/white-ish in colour and feels like slime in the water & I've noticed one or two bits stuck to the filter sponge that I have on my intake pipe & also on the sand.

Not sure why it's only happening on the rubberised parts & nowhere else but don't know if that's got anything to do with it.

I think I'll give it until the weekend, if there's no movement then the tank will be getting stripped down and started again.

I too have slime on my heater suckers - same as how you describe it :/ It's a tiny bit unsightly  I also got it on my temperature sucker, but removed it and it came off like flaky dead skin bit like the skin when you've been burnt
