My Fluval Edge Tank - With Fish!

Couple of piccies, with no fishies!

Yep. I've not put any wood/rock in today as I never found any I liked at Maidenhead Aquatics.

Off to P@H tomorrow to see what they have and possibly buy a couple of small moss balls for the potential shrimp stockage :D

Just concerned the nitrites have spiked again.

Tested before I stuck my mitts into the tank so there's no contamination issue.

Not sure whether to get a background image or not for the tank. Some quite nice ones but thought the livestock might disappear and not be seen too well.

At Day 19 it would make sense to me that you are somewhere in the midst of your nitrite spike (the second phase of three) which often goes on quite a bit longer than the initial phase when you are waiting for ammonia to drop the first time.

To me, backgrounds rarely seem to go with the clean look of the Edge (although art is tricky and you never know what might work) -- many us have had success with plain black backgrounds (mine is mostly blocked from view by plants and the substrate is also black, so it's mostly the fish and plants that catch the eye.)

~~waterdrop~~

Couple more piccies now I bought the climbing frame for the shrimp :p

Day 21: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 0ppm / Nitrite: 5.00ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test) *** Dosed 0.5ml of Ammonia

Loving your pics. I can't wait to see your edge when its stocked.

Keith.

Day 22: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 0ppm / Nitrite: 5.00ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test) *** Dosed 0.5ml of Ammonia

:X

Day 23: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 0ppm / Nitrite: 0.00ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test) *** Dosed 0.5ml of Ammonia

Nitrite was 5ppm yesterday & 0ppm today.

Tested twice as I didn't trust it. :shifty:

Day 24: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 0ppm / Nitrite: 0.00ppm / Nitrate: Between 80-160ppm *** Dosed 0.5ml of Ammonia

2nd day of 0.00ppm Nitrites :good:

Dosed with the normal 0.5ml of Ammonia to get 2ppm.

Will dose back to 5ppm tomorrow IF the Nitrite stays at 0.00pm.

Getting there :hey:

Will check Saturday morning to see how quick the Ammonia is getting processed (approx 12 hours), then re-test for about a week if the Nitrites & Ammonia stay at 0.00ppm.

If it goes to plan, then looking at stocking a week on Sunday.

Probably start with 4 or 5 Cardinal Tetras, then add Shrimp/Betta at a later date. Take it in small steps :good:

Excellent thread Gaz. As I'm only on day 4 of my own cycle it's great to watch yours happen day by day.

Glad you've been liking it Warehouse.

I've done exactly the same & followed other peoples logs/threads to see how theirs has gone too.

Admittedly the past week has been frustrating as my Nitrites dipped after spiking & I thought I was on the home stretch but then they rocketed again, so until they stay at 0 I'm not counting my chickens.

Fingers crossed though my bacteria is now dealing with the Ammonia & Nitrites sufficiently, but the next few days will tell for sure.
