Day 11: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.0 / Ammonia: 1ppm / Nitrite: 5ppm / Nitrate: (Did not test)

Hight pH dropped a touch to 8.0. Dosed last night to 5ppm Ammonia, and today it's dropped to 1ppm.

Had to re-test as I didn't believe it.... bloody 'ell that processed quick. :hyper:

See if the last bit is processed by tomorrow, then dose again.

Soon will have to do the 12 hour checks I presume. Nitrites are still through the roof at present.

:hey:

Edit - Tweaked the temp on the heater to 29c. Still only reading 25c on the stick on thermometer on the side of the tank, so taking the average of 27c :D

Now that your at stage 2(nitrIte spike)of your fishless cycle its a good idea to lower your h/h ammonia dose to 2/3ppm, this will prevent you getting large amounts of nitrate in your tank waters chemistry when you get to stage 3(12/24 hourly parameter checks). When your nitrite level gets down to 0ppm you can then up your h/h ammonia dose back to 4/5ppm every 24hrs. Then when you start to see your h/h ammonia dose being consumed in 24hrs you can start testing every 12hrs(stage 3).

Keith.

Excellent.

Once I get hope from work tomorrow I'll test again & see where we're at.

I'll do a full test, pH,pH High, Ammonia, Nitrite & Nitrate. Shame they didn't give 5 test tubes.

Just as a heads up. I had a Fluval Edge (Filter broke) it is same as the aqua one. What are you using as a sbustrate as I never had a problem and always had mine on max to make sure it was getting the best flow. If you are using sand and mainly low dense then it may well move. Something like a piece of bogwood or rock to place below the outlet to break up the flow is your best option.

I have some MR11 LED bulbs if your interested (postage by you covered) as I scrapped my tank when the filter broke. I also have the two original lights thast you can have as spares if you wish.

Looks like your cycle is going well. For plants if you go for them I would opt for Anubias and some dwarf vals or similar as these are easy to grow and don't have too worry about light. If you are planning on keeping Cardinals (think I read that at start) then you should really go for a group of 6 or more and if you do pick them then the betta may find it stressful (mine didn't) but something to watch for.

I had a few Kuhli loaches and some cardinals that came with bigger tank but after a while I got some dwarf puffers which go really well in tank. Since it broke I moved on to the Fluval Flora Nano and with the way it is I find much better as there is more access.

Hope this helps a little anways. Any questions let me knowl.

Kind regards,

Adam

Cheers Adam for the tips.

Day 12: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.2 / Ammonia: 0ppm / Nitrite: 5ppm / Nitrate: 160ppm

Going to dose to 2-3ppm as suggested.

How long should I wait after dosing to re-test?

:good:

24hrs when your in stage 2 of your cycle.

Keith.

Ah sorry Keith, I meant after dosing? To make sure I'm at 2-3ppm.

Split the difference 25mins

I waited about an hour to re-test after adding 0.5ml of ammonia.

Figure was sky high for some reason, really dark green. Definitely dosed 0.5ml.

The reason I wondered about the time to re-test is due to the small area of access on the Fluval Edge. You're taking a sample from the exact place you're dosing pretty much.

Day 13: pH = 7.6 / pH High = 8.2 / Ammonia: 0ppm / Nitrite: 5ppm / Nitrate: Between 80-160ppm (really hard to tell) *** Dosed with 0.5ml of Ammonia
