I think your cycle is going better than mine (you read what WD said in my log right?) he never really said much about stocking less? I was only stocking less because the fish I want can't be added to brand new tanks they're too sensitive...

so maybe ask WD what he thinks..either way I reckon a few more 0's and you'd be done anyway

Lol I'm waiting for his words of wisdom! I wouldn't put that Pandas in a tank I know it's 100% anyway coz they're senstive. I've been told they're ok for a new tank as long as my conditions are good. Which you can't justify if you haven't done a qualifying week I don't think

You know, these days I sometimes know what the results are gonna be coz I can still smell the Ammonia....if that happens I know it's gonna be 0.25!

Actually Im gona do an experiment. I really think that had I tested 10 mins after I did the first one this morning it would have been clear.......I may test that theory tomorrow!

Ok now I'm confused. Got double 0's this morning but the slight bleacy smell was still there. Do you think it's just something that happens when it mixes with the test solution?

Same again today! I would think I'm just about there (in the last 5 days I've had one out reading, other than that it's all been 0) but I am concerned about the bleach smell........does anyone have any ideas? Do you think it's just the test solution?

Bleach smell... from the Ammonia test API kit?

It's the test solution, nothing to worry about.

I think it's the test kit yeah but I'm not 100%. There's deffo no Ammonia in the water coz today I double checked with my Salifert kit too. I didn't notice the smell with that one but then you don't shake it around and "waft" the smell the same as you do with the API.

I get that smell all the time and its usually on my fingers after I've shaken the mixture. The tank water smells good enough to drink to me lol.

Smell levels...

Ammonia Test kit is a definite smeller though
Nitrite barely
Nitrate a little bit

{edit} ok you just made me go and stick my nose in my tank.....it does have a "tank like" smell. I suppose that's normal though?

Bum I fogot my test so today's test was actually my 12 hour and 45 min test lol.


Still double 0's though. Hopefully I should be able to get fish and plants next weekend!

Hey Twinklecaz

If you're planning on getting plants allow me to recommend the cheap c02 option of seachem flourish. Not only is it inexpensive but it actually gives my tank a flower type smell.

I would say roses but that would sound to Cliché. But the smell to me is definitely more pleasant than the usual tank odor.

RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA I got a trace Nitrite reading today. Less than 0.25 but more than 0. Do I need to take much notice of this do you think? It's been behaving really well and I'm only gonna be getting about half of my stock next weekend anyway. I hope it's just a blip

What do we think?
