Hi all,

I've got a 24 gallon tank with two weather loach that I'm gradually bringing up to tropical temperatures. I'm also going to add live plants.

Been looking about and here's what I'm considering adding:

2-4 kissing gourami

1 angelfish (small)

4-6 albino cory's

guppies (not sure how many)

other possible ideas include -

1/2 other gourami (e.g blue/gold/opal)

Golden ram(s) (too tricky to look after?)

a shoal of something small - rasbora/cardinals?

possibly switching guppies for a betta?!?

-----------

Would appreciate any advice on any compatibility issues and any other ideas/suggestions. I like fish that are fun characters, like my weather loach, rather than ones that just float around looking pretty (would the angel be like that?). I've had goldfish for years but this is my first tropical tank.

Also what order should I add them and how long an interval should I leave between adding each group of fish?

Thanks!

Jamie

I think kissing gouramis get quite big so four might be a bit much for that tank especially if you want two more of another kind from what i remember they need at least 10 gallons each to keep aggression down and should be kept one male to two females at least so i dont think you have the room for them sorry x

2-4 kissing gourami - get to 12" each - definately too big

1 angelfish (small) - yeah it'll be small when you get it.... then what? you need to allow at least 5g in your stocking for 1 and make sure the tank is at least 18" tall

4-6 albino cory's - fine

guppies (not sure how many) - be careful when choosing them, they're very inbred and can be very weak

other possible ideas include -

1/2 other gourami (e.g blue/gold/opal) - better idea that the kissers, they'll only get to 4/5"... there can be agression issues with the blue and gold ones

Golden ram(s) (too tricky to look after?) - maybe a little sensitive, but if your careful and do your research there's no reason why not

a shoal of something small - rasbora/cardinals? - fine - don't get neon's if you get the angel though

possibly switching guppies for a betta?!? - nope, male betta's should be kept in tanks by themselves, females only with other betta's

Ok, heres a revised stocking list:

4-6 albino cory's

1 dwarf gourami

2 blue/golden rams

guppies (should i just get males? or 2 males 4 females?)

+ the 2 weather loaches

Will I have room for some cardinals as well?

Why is it that these calculators always bring out the worst in me? Why do I have to compulsively feed into it more and more combinations while the potatoes are boiling dry? We learn from this site that Chinese Algae Eaters can be kept in groups of any amount and are compatible with angels and bettas, that red-tail sharks and rainbow sharks are compatible, but that corydoras and pearl gouramis are not compatible- why?

Id personally get rid of the Gourami aswell, one on its own wont be very happy, id then have 1 male and 3 female Rams, 5 Cory, Male guppy unless you want lots of live food for another larger fish tank :) (my Firmouths and Convicts loved guppy as food :D )

Thanks for the input dwarfgourami. It's a challenge to try to create an accurate calculator and input is always welcome. The database at Tim's has been updated based on your suggestions. Let me know if you've got other areas that need correcting too. Thanks. :)
