My first plakat....

Hi,
I stopped in at a lfs that usually has a good selection of bettas, and they had local breeder fish for sale.. they were $6.99 Cnd and there was a plakat! It was labeled as a female but i didn't tell So i got it and here are a couple of pics of it.
I dropped the bag in the female's tank to make sure, he was flaring like crazy

They're all such cuties... I really couldn't tell the difference between the male and female from the pic though. Great find though Your girl is a beautiful shade of blue

Alright, just look under the fish's belly and see if there's a white dot (sometimes protruding from her belly) to determine if its a female or not.

You'd think, but look at the extended anal fin, and the way it points.

Also, check for a beard. Boys have 'em, girls have really little ones that aren't that noticeable.

At first glance I'd say ST female too Beautiful fish either way though

Have to agree re: ST female. Are you sure there's no egg spot? I noticed plakats have short, wide and rounded dorsals compared to other kinds of bettas, male or female.

I have to admit, your male looks exactly like a female I got at walmart... And I have no idea what that means for any identifying traits, just that I've never found a betta that looked so close to mine... I'll shut up now

Well there doesn't seem to be a white dot on IT's belly. Thats why I thought it was a male at first. I didn't get it at wal mart either, I got it at a lfs.

Edit: Plus its a lot longer than all of my females. Also it was jarred up and not with the other female bettas.

Ok so now im second guessing myself.....
I put.... IT in the females tank.. and its chasing my two neons around....
It doesn't have any stripes but I have had a red female that didn't have stripes before
I assume that ST is single tail??

Edit: yes it has a beard, its not long but its just noticable
Edited edit: Please don't hold back from voicing your opinion. I could care less if I was wrong by calling it a male. It's better that I know than pretend.

Another Edit: Well I was watching the new betta and I figured... why not try putting a mirror up to it... It went crazy once for a few seconds but then went back to chasing the neons....
