I've never had a female betta before, and have only recently begun seeing them kept in the LFS. I saw this little CT today and couldn't resist.

what are you naming her?i have never had a girl betta so i can't tell you any advice on females but alot on males! :D

I've named her "Pam." I also know nothing of keeping female bettas, but I've kept plenty of males in the past, so I don't think things will go awry. I wanted to bring home THREE, but I was scared they wouldn't get along! They had a royal blue CT and a dusky purple VT that would have been nice as well. It was a hard choice, but (after an hour in the shop!) I finally settled on little Pam.

She is pretty, does she also have a bit of irridesent blue on her tail, or is that jus the way the light was hitting her? Lovely little girl.

I have kept single girls in the past in mixed community set ups but never a group of girls, I know they are supposed to be safe to keep together, but have never got around to trying it for myself. I have been tempted to get three girls to add to one of the guppy tanks to try and reduce the fry numbers, because the parents just aren't keeping up to the babies being born.

No, no blue on her tail. Must be a trick of the camera. When (if...) I get a larger tank, I might try a small sorority. For now, though, Pam flies solo. I think a trio of females in a largish tank would work well to control fry population. Maybe someone could correct me.

Pam is beautiful, i would of picked her myself :D

with groups you need a minimum of 5 ideally to spread aggression, but the more the better, with my group of 12 theres very little if any aggression :good:

Ahh hubby didn't mind you bringing home another betta :D She is lovely good choice and Pam does suits her. I find females more tougher than males.

He didn't mind actually! Her aquarium sits next to his desk, and I've caught him watching her. He said it's "weird" to see a betta without the expected, flowing fins, but that she's cute. From him, this is high praise indeed

Congrats,- Pam's lovely! I agree with lilfishie that females are best kept in a minimum group of 5. I have now got 17 in my community tank and they all get along just fine. I have varying ages and sizes, but no signs of aggression with any of them.

Ha ha ha  I started off with one betta and my husband didn't mind then it increased and increased until I ended up with ?? too many. Every time I bought one home he'd roll his eyes and shake his head but deep down he likes them because he made me a huge table to put all 13 tanks on. Now when I bring another one home he says where the hell you gonna put this one. I tell him ohhh somewhere and as usual he walks off shaking his head.....gotta luv em.

13 tanks! I'm pretty sure 4 is my limit. I've got 3 bettas...two on their own (well, Charlie is with a snail) and Luck is in the community tank where he is NOT the bully. Guppies can be kind of awful...
