I am so excited, I have owned betta for many years but finally decided to breed some. I have adequate room for all and I'm just so excited! I didn't want to get my hopes up but now about 30 hrs after the spawn I've seen my first dozen fry. Their daddy is doing so well and he didn't get a nip on his pretty fins from their courtship. The mama had a little bite out of her tail but overall everything went well.

These are the proud parents... King Henry and Coleen.

I hope a bunch live, when they were eggs it seemed like there were only fifty or so, but maybe some were hiding well. Also, Henry made 3 nests!! And the babies are spread out through all of them so he's constantly missing some fry/eggs as they fall. Silly fish.

Also, they seemed to do a lot of sideways wrapping during the spawn, he never actually flipped her completely upside down. Obviously the eggs were fertilized but I was curious if anyone else has this happen with their betta.

Yah!!

Congrats on your wrigglers :good: It looks like you have the tank full with water......if so, it should only be 6" deep so that it's easier for the male to retrieve any babies that fall to the bottom.

Thanks everyone. Yeah, Netty I have it full, I was reading on betty-splendens and some other sites about various breeding methods and decided I would try with the tank full. It has kept the humidity within the tank higher and his nests are lasting longer. I have already seen some fry swim from the bottom to the top by themselves, the little troopers  .

Here are a few pictures of the eggs and fry, I know they are little in the pictures but I can make some out.

Oh ok :good:

Lol.....I think I can spot a couple of them. It will be interesting to see if you get any Halfsuns from them!!!!

Thanks everyone! I hope their babies are as beautiful as them. It will be interesting to see what color combination I get.

So I woke up this morning and went to check on Henry and the babies and he was looking quite tired. Poor guy, those fry just won't stay in their nest. And he's made it HUGE! This bubblenest spans almost the entire front of the tank so he's swimming like crazy to catch everyone. Silly fish!

Here's a picture of him from this morning, I don't think you can see the fry very well but it shows how big his nest is getting. Oh, and the fry are swimming up to the nest really well and are almost two times as big as they seemed yesterday.

Here's a blurry shot of the fry, I know you can see them in this, there is one swimming below the nest and some tails hanging down. I love them!!

He is doing well isn't he :good:

You'll have to make this thread into a diary so we can follow how your fry grow from week to week. It's funny seeing the males round up all their babies and take them back to the nest. No wonder they get so tired though!!!

For future reference, if you lower the water depth to 5-6 inches it will make it easier on him when rounding them up. :good:

Congatulations!!!! My pair spawned on tuesday so i know how exciting it is at the moment. I can't wait to compare the growth of yours to mine x

I think that's a great idea. I can't wait to see the little guys grow!

I can't believe Henry isn't exhausted from chasing so many around. I counted all the little tails I could and so far I've found 50+ and every time I count there are more. I hope a hole bunch survive!!

Congrats to you too, mfcclc! Do you have pictures of your betta up? It will be great to compare them together!
