My Ferocious Pit Bull

i think its so sad that pitbulls have been given the reputation that they have :/ any dog has the temprement to snap in the wrong conditions ie tired, hot etc.....

Hijack away! :D
Most of what people hear about pits' reputation is untrue and is falsified by the media, and when something bad does happen no one ever looks to the owner. You also never hear on the news how a labrador or a golden retriever attacked a child but it does happen. I don't really want to start a rant though, I just love my lil' boy to death and wanted to show off his "ferociousness" :p

aww such pretty doggies!!

theres laws against keeping pit's in this country now isn't there? (by this country, i mean the UK), "dangerous dog breed", i remember there being outrage when that law was introduced...

i worked at a pet shelter when i was a kid for work experience, there was this staffy there, it's owners had thrown it out of a car and dragged it, it's skin was peeling off, you would have THOUGHT that would've made him a bitter dog, but no, sweetest dog in the world and got homed with a loving family with small children.

now there are stories in London of people getting their staffys stolen, at knife point in some cases, or being swiped out of kids hands. a pit in this city would be stolen like that *snaps fingers*. mean gangs out there :(

She looks exactly like my girl Sabbath who we very sadly had to put down 2 days before last Xmas due to cancer :-( , she was 10 yrs old and my nieces and nephews adored her, she was so placid the cat was always the boss LOL

A sadly missed member of our family.

It's legal to keep them in the US but a lot of insurance companies don't allow them. They will either cancel your home owners insurance if you get one (and the find out) or refuse you coverage if you have what is considered a dangerous dog - pits, dobermans, rotweilers (sp), even german shepherds. Some will allow you to sign a waiver relieving them of any liability if your dog bites someone but some will not cover you even with a waiver. I have a friend that is moving n December and she is having a hard time finding an apartment that will let her keep her shepherd. They will allow dogs but not the "dangerous" ones

here you go this is the British Law:

Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 prohibits four types of dog:

* the Pit Bull Terrier
* the Japanese tosa
* the Dogo Argentino
* the Fila Brasileiro

It is an offence to own or keep any of the above types of dog, unless it is on the Index of Exempted Dogs and is in compliance with the requirements. In any event it is an offence to breed from, sell or exchange (even as a gift) such a dog, irrespective of whether it has been placed on the Index of Exempted Dogs. Page 3 of Annex A provides further details about the Index.

Thank you! :*)
How could anyone do that to an innocent animal???? I mean I have a hard time yelling at my puppies because they sit there and give you that look...
You know "the look"... with their head down and their big brown eyes looking up at you. :sad: It literally sickens me the way that some people think of animals. I also know what you mean about it being the sweetest dog after you saved it. We got our first puppy Isis from a shelter when she was 4 months old. The lady asked us TONS of questions and made us wait 24 hours until we had finalized our decision because Isis had already been adopted twice from that shelter. The first time was with a man and I guess he was really mean to her. (She's still very timid and very afraid of men) Well he brought her back and she was adopted by another family but they brought her back within a week because they couldn't deal with her issues. All I can say was that God meant for that little puppy to be with me :wub:
She's still a little neurotic but she is like my little shadow. She is so sweet and so loving and it just goes to show you that if you take the time to love an animal and treat it well you will have the best friend/companion of a lifetime.
Here she is when she was 5 months old :wub: :wub:

I can understand why responsible pitbull owners feel the way they do considering the critters I keep company with.

We were out once with Guyu who really just looks like an overgrown husky. A guy came up with his two daughters and they were petting him and talking about what a sweet dog he was, how well behaved, and then the man asked what breed he was. We made the mistake of telling the truth that he was a wolf mix and the guy all the sudden gets between Guyu and his kids and backs them to the car looking at us like we should be shot.

I just don't think pitbulls should be as common as they are because they can be an advanced canine. Just my opinion but the following people should never have them or any large powerful canine..
1)people that think the dog is a babysitter
2)people that cannot keep the dog from accessing strangers passing by the property..you need to human proof the yard so no one comes in not just keep the dog in (there was a case this year where a mother lifted her kid over a fence to see someones dogs and the kids face got scratched and the dogs were put down even though the mother was irresponsible not the owner of the dogs who had a 6' fence)
3)people that just want a macho guard dog
4)people that are not willing to learn canine body language
5)people that consider a dog a part of the yard not part of the family
6)people that let dogs interact with other peoples children you never know if they've learned to not tease dogs

I am scared of chihuahuas. And my Dad is scared of Cocker Spaniels he has been bitten by a dog twice in his 63 years and both times it was a Cocker Spaniel.
