My 2 Ellioti's had been showing signs of breeding behaviour over the last week. Well yesterday I came home to find this. I'm really pleased and the mother is doing a great job if guarding the unmatched eggs. It should be Saturday when they eventually hatch. I can't wait ro see what happens.

I'm probably going to let nature take its course ok this spawn and just leave the eggs and parents in the same rank as my Sev and Geo's. It's still nonetheless fascinating to witness the protective behaviour though.

Congratulations! Thorichthys are great parents, I love watching my Firemouths!Looks like alot of eggs there!
Keep us updated on their progress! But don't hope too much as if this is their first spawn, they will often get things wrong.

Sorry about the spelling mistakes. I don't get on with smartphones...

I'm not too fused what happens in all honesty. I just enjoy watching the changes in behaviour. Very interesting...

Got home today and my Sev looks like he got abit too close to the spawning area. Hopefully he'll learn to stay well clear now!

I'd noticed the odd stand off and then the sudden darting movements towards eachother trying to scare the other away, but I'm not sure what went on today. He seems ok though, just a few marks and a split Fin. I did a water change anyway as I was due one, so ill keep an eye on him. It doesn't look like anything serious anyway.

Tomorrow should see some activity with the eggs in terms of fry hatching....

Great to hear them doing so well with the eggs!

Quick update for anyone whose interested:

The fry are now freeswimming and both parents are doing a great job. I'll keep everyone posted if there's any updates.

they look so sweet. really hoping you can raise them. Ellioti's aren't easy to come by, i've only ever seen them in Maidenhead and even then its rare they have them in.

Those parents are doing so well with the fry! That picture is a FTOM winner! :good:

The free swimming fry lasted about a week before presumably getting eaten by my other fish, over the course of 3-4 days.

Well anyway, I got home yesterday and guess what! I only caught them laying eggs, but unfortunately didn't have a camera handy.

Maybe, I haven't got any empty tanks, but may event in a small breeder one, a sooner filter and a heater if I can find one in either P.A.H. or my lfs.
