My Discus Show Tank

how do you 'control' the pH?

It comes from the tap at 6.5, but off gases to 7.0 after 24 hours, I add a buffer at each water change, and have a pH controller connected to my CO2 injection(solenoid) that is set at 6.4. So is a combination of the base water, buffer and CO2, but the end result is controlled by the pH controller connected to the CO2.

cheers. I have discus in the back of my mind and just wondered about the water management side of keeping them. Very hard water where I live so it would need to be a RO unit if I went that way.

Refugium is the best way if you have hard water. You can then generate small amounts of R/O water, as you won't need to do so many water changes. I watched a really good video on Youtube, I will try and find it for you. I am planning a very big tank when I move house at the end of this year and will set up something similar, as doing large water changes won't be practical. .......... back in a mo, with the link

Here you go Zoddy, This set up rocks

a refugium? I saw using RO as step that might be too far for me, now you throw this into the mix......that puts discus even further to the back of my mind

No way man, they are really no problem. Just need a tad more planing than your average fish. Get everything sorted up front and they are really no problem, and so nice. Majestic fish with great personalities. Sort the set up before the fish and it is easy. I could go on about them all day

Anyway..........what about my Ram question?

I only have the pair - so you would need someone else to comment on that.

Your params are almost exactly what I keep mine at so will be :good:

Thanks mate, my only dilemma is whether to go with one pair or a group and let the pair up

ooooh I love them! I hope they do well for you :) I'm really enjoying my Bolivians - I've noticed in your picture and some others on the forum that your GBRs are using the whole tank (ie up at the top) my Bolivians never leave the bottom that I can see. I wonder if it's a difference between the two...hmmmm!

The tank looks fab, of course!

I was in the middle of a water change when I took that pic, so they were stuck in 10 inches of water. They are swimming around at the bottom now.

There's one at the top in your FTS boyo! Srsly though I've seen them elsewhere in the tank in other pics as well
