My Discus Journal

must be getting frustrating waiting for those cards mate . they will fininsh things off nicely . some rams would go nicely too .

it is mate although hes just replied and will get them sent out, hopefully this week

Just had a guy email me who has baby Royal Sturisoma as well so I'm getting 6 babies with a view to getting a pair out of them as I love those fish and they look ace in a tank with valllis and other plants

thats all good on the cardinals then mate :good: just had a quick google of that catfish , i like it woulld make an interesting addition if the temp requirements are right .

I would keep the Angles in another tank. I have a Festivum with my discus and he is the perfect tank mate for them. He just adds a little something different to the tank you know. But the festivums love to eat plants. It looks good so far.

I think there days are numbered with me as I agree with you.

i love festivums a mate had them about 18 years ago and I;ve never seen them for sale. Thats why I thought of keyholes as they are regularly for sale

I wish Firemouths were compatible as I;ve been realising this week they are one of my favourite all time fish and I;d like to give them a go again as its been a while with them

the trouble mostly at feeding time ?? dicus do tend to be more slow deliberate eaters and so easily get out competed by faster greedier fish .

id love to get some firemouths again too mate , im tempted to grab a couple while my O's are still small but i cant guarentee il be able to afford an upgrade once everything grows , so ive gotta give em a miss too.

I think its just the amount they eat, I watch them and think that the discus would have more if the angels were not there and they also distract you from the discus. with angels gone and a couple more discus in , the discus would be the centre piece fish and the rest of the cards etc would compliment them.

Really getting into this tank at the moment. :good:

have to say im in agreement with you mate , if you set up a discus tank , then the discus should be the "stars of the show"

loving the giant vallis mate . will look fantastic if it does well. mine just melted and died . i have since learned that its important when you plant it that the crown/rhizome ?? you know the white bit just above the roots ( gotta love these technical terms lol) is not buried in the substrate.

didn;t know that, shall go and lift it slightly when I feed them in a sec!!

I;d love it to do well myself I think that Vallis is the best plant around

just met an interesting chap in Southport and bought 6 Royal Whiptail juvis from him. Fingers crossed I get a pair. Lovely fish Ive kept them before and they grow into graceful looking active beauties!!!

The guy was also a cory breeder with about 20 small cory tanks with different types in each one. I got his only three juvi sterbai to go with the 6 I already have

Just need to sell the 4 angels now so If anyone local wants some at a decent price let me know

Ahh great news on the whiptails! Fantastic fish. I'd love a green royal one day. Fascinating fish, so distinctive and majestic when mature. I second the angels have to go, and i see your planning on them leaving which is good for the discus. I can see why you'd have both, it seems like a good idea, but concidering the discus are always going to be concidered the kings/queens of the tank the angels will always steal your attention.

Vallis in general is a fantastic plant. It grows so readily, and spreads so well it quickly fills out a tank. Always in a 'natural' manner also. I've found mine always spread around and never in straight lines which was great. Giant Vallis is certainly a looker. Have you thought about getting a group of them? Something i've always wanted to do, but with it being so big i've never had a tank quite big enough to try it.
