My Beta that I have had for about 1 1/2 years has completely stopped eating this week. I have given him 3 epsom salt bathes but it doesnt get him to eat. I have also noticed he hasnt pooped all week. He looks healthy and is staying on top of his tank. If anybody knows anthing else I could try I'd appreciate it.

Usually what i do is i boil a small amount of water then drop a pea in for a few minutes. Then pop the pea out of its shell and break it up into betta sized bites. Besides not eating, have you seen any othre symptoms such as bloating, fuzzy stuff, swimming wierd or anything else?

No he seems perfectly healthy besides not eating, but I will definitely try feeding him a pea. Thanks

I've just used one straight out of the bag for the frozen ones-just warmed it in a papertowel in my hand. They have more fiber than the canned and aren't so mushy. I've had to keep splitting then splitting them down and down so the piece is small enough. I've put them on the end of a flat toothpick which the older one strikes at...However, he sometimes misses the pea. I have better luck just putting it on the tip of my finger and he comes up to take it. Feels kinda strange tho...not painful, just weird. I put some epsom salts right in his tank for a week or so-maybe 1/4 of a teaspoonful or so in 2.5 gallons.

the insides of smashed peas are great for constipated bettas. also i've noticed that none of my bettas can resist peas even if they're stuffed. one of my females, miyuke (mother of my fry), is such a pig, she'll eat any sort of food till she's about to burst and then eat peas on top of that if they're available!

Check for pine coning..... otherwise it sounds like Hexamita.

I had the same issue before.... the random non eater that in time progresses to hide and fade away..... or the spontaneous death (alive at 1 feeding... 12 hours later they are dead).

Hexamita is naturally occuring in our water. You really don't want to look to close at how much critters are allowed in our water and is considered good quality.

I was flipping out till some one I know (who has been dealing with fish & bettas for decades) clued me in.

This does not sound like constipation. No lilting.... no trailing feces.... Feeding a variety of food will prevent this. Daphnia seem to be betta ex-lax. Mine won't eat peas. I also have never had to deal with my bettas having constipation... except for 1. Not bad seeing as how I have almost hundred adults.

I have also noticed that he is turning kind of brownish in some areas. I just tried to feed him a pea and he wont eat it. Any other suggestions?
