My Attempt At Do-It-Yourselfing

Good stuff mate,
It's coming along :)
Are you going to put some cross members under the top to support the tank?

Okay, here's what I need to do:
1)Put fancy wood over the plywood
2)add door to the cabinet
3)move the stand into my fish room, and put my tanks on top.

I'll have to ask about the cross-members. I didn't design the thing, the member of my family who has studied engineering did. We are putting in shelves.
The top of the cabinet is 1\2 an inch thick, and it's plywood, so it's pretty strong.

Neomeris.

If you had it designed by an engineer it should be fine, ;)
but its always good to be a bit paranoid when you dealing with such a large amount of water. (how big is you tank? its hard to grasp the scale of the cabinet in the pic.)
My thoughts were,
That the back of the top is well supported along its whole length by the rear panel, but if the front edge of the top was to sag under the load of the tank.
It could create a pressure point across the central upright.
You could probably avoid any real problems by using a nice thick underlay for the tank.

I'm putting two twenty gallon tanks on it. What do you mean by "cross members"? Sorry, I'm not good with terms like that.

Sorry just a beam (a piece of timber underneath the front edge, running the length of the cabinet)
but i forgot you were using two tanks, so it is unlikely that what i said before would be a problem.
Still go with some good underlay.

We are not going with any cross members, or anything angry  (corny joke, sorry) we haven't done anything major to the stand since the last picture, so if you want to see how it looks, look at the pic from August 16th. You don't need to look very hard.

We have added feet to the cabinet. We have also added fancy wood to the sides. More pics soon, I promise.

Okay, sorry about only one picture. I will post more, I just need to figure how. I will try to get some today. We only need to paint the cabinet, and then it is finished. Has everybody stopped reading this thread or something?????

Here is what the cabinet will look like, except we're painting it white. I'm almost done!!!

Okay. This is it.....I'm done with the cabinet!!!!!! It's in place and everything!!! Thank you for reading about my cabinet building. I hope you will read about the next stage in my fish room, which is setting up another tank. I will be working with fish that I have little to know experience with, so I will need advice.

I'm sorry Tizer, I'm really busy as I have just started at a new school and need to worry about a group of girls who have threatened to punch me if I ever so much as breath in the wrong direction (not that I have bad breath or anything) I will try to get a picture, but that may be hard if they really do break several fingers as they promised to.

No broken bones yet, though!!! :D
