cant do that rabbut its a clamp on type not from the ceiling so should i do what u said before start with 4 hours then increase over the month?
also will lps and zoas be ok in this light?
Well, I'm not sure how long I'd run them for. I'd maybe start off with the 4 and see how it goes. If all looks OK after a few days, increase the photoperiod by half an hour or so and observe again Zoas don't seem to like ligt directly from a Halide IME, and some LPS won't appreciate it either. What LPS corals do you have in?
They need very good flow (consider another pump in there) and usually pristine water conditions, but otherwise aren't too bad. This said, all my SPS are doing fine in a tank with Phosphates showing and a Nitrate reading of 50ppm
lol!!!! could my sg being 1.021 do anything? coz thats what it is and what my lfs supplys me with. im going to buy a small pack of salt tommow to up it a bit

For corals, you want at least 1.025 for long-term keeping, with most on here targeting 1.026 If you are going into SPS, I'd strongly advise you to mix your own salt RO with a good brand of salt. LFS's will use whatever they can get cheapest at the time, and that often means stuff like AquaOne with no trace or macro elements in it to speak of... Reef Crystals, Tropic Marin and Red Sea Coral Pro are all well reputed brands
i rung him up yesterday and they use the red sea coral pro one. thats probably why they use it in smaller doses as its more expensive im going to buy a small box of it and add some today. shall i do a 10% water change at 1.026 or higher to up the sg in the tank?
so whilst im on hols shall i get my grandparents and cleaner who know nothing about marine to top up with salt water of sg1.026? could it go too high in ten days? they wont test the water for there lives
On average, you'd loose about 0.0005 salinity points a day with evaporation, so I probably wouldn't let them top-up with salted RO. Start the corrections before you go, and finish them when you get back, have the cleaner top-up with fresh RO
