Hi i got my first betta yesterday, he's called ziggy (sorry no pics yet, havn't got a digital camera)

He's in a 2 gallon vase with no filter so i'm planning on doing 50% water changes twice weekley

How much do i feed him to make sure he's not fouling his water too quickley but he's well fed?

I gave him 5 small bloodworm yesterday and he ate all that.

five small bloodworms a day will be more than enough, just feed him 2-3 bloodworms in the morning and 2-3 at night and he will be fine- bettas also enjoy other frozen/freezedried foods like daphinia, tubifex and krill in their diet too :) .

I don't feed my bettas bloodworms, but that sounds like a good meal for him. :D Are you feeding onlt bloodworms? Because too many too often can cause constipation i've heard.

I feed my bettas pellets, about 4 twice a day, and a boiled cooled shelled pea once a week to avoid constipation. :)

You might want to do 100% water changes rather than 50%, because if the tank is unfiltered there isn't enough beneficial bacteria to keep ammonia and nitrite at safe levels, meaning that if you don't empty 100% of the water these harmful chemicals can build up over time :)

I don't know if you can get betta pellets over here (UK)

I bought a pack of varied frozen food, brand name ROTA which includes the bloodworm but i don't know what the other stuff is?

With the water changes i'm gonna test the water every day this week for ammonia to get an idea of how often it needs changing, i don't want to do 100% though coz that means i've got to find somewhere else to put him and have the water matured and right temp etc..

i'm gonna change 50% tonight coz the ammonia was at 0.25 this morning

Out of curiosity, where did you get your betta? Because if a petstore sells bettas I would think would sell betta food... I've never heard any of the other uk betta owners having a problem like that. :/
