i preffer the mutts
i love em all but mutts live longer and have a better quality of life
less disease/medical problems

THAT IS NOT TRUE. By dog is 99% german sheped an my father was saying that she was the smartest dog he has ever seen. He has worked at pet stores and owned his own pet shop so saying that a mut is smarter is just BS.

I like both. When I was little we used to have a German Sheperd, great dog and my current dog is a mutt with bad gas :)
Hey wait, why is it not a big deal when dogs interbreed and a huge one when cichlids do?

I would have to agree with mr crabs. Purebreds are sometimes too smart. Remember just because a dog is good at lots of tricks doesnt mean hes smart. The more intelligent a dog is, the harder he is to train. A highly intelligent dog may sometimes appear dumb, because they can think their way out of doing what you want them to do.

I'm a fan of both :D
I have a one year old mutt now and boy she
is a handfull :p
I really love her, she's great but dear ohh dear she can be
difficult :*)
Next time I get a dog it will definandly be a pure breed one ;)

I breed purebreds & totally disagree with the statment that purebreds have more health problems than mutts. :X It's just not true.

I like both mutts & purebreds & show my dogs, so I only have 'use' for purebreds.

If it's true that the smarter a dog is the harder it is to train then I must have a canine genius in my midst! I have a pit bull/shar pei mix that is just gorgeous but he's willful and I swear plays dumb to oscar proportions. Any ideas on how to train this beast? My biggest problem with him is he jumps our concrete fence and terrorizes (albeit unintentionally) the neighborhood. He will never hurt anything but it's certainly a liability in case someones provokes, you know? He spends a great deal of time inside but outside we have to keep him on a 15 foot line which I hate.

I prefer mutts myself, but I was raised my whole life with purebreds. We had German Shepherds, and almost anyone who has had one knows the heartache of the hip problem. Then problem is that since purebreds are inbred so much, you have defective recessive genes that pair up and become dominant, where in a mutt, they would more likely stay recessive. The other "problem" with purebreds is that they are so extreme......hard to explain so here's examples:
Pit Bull: Very protective and aggressive as a purebred, but mixed with say...Lab, not so much aggressive, and a bit more on the playful side.
Lab: Purebred....squirrelly, and very hyper, but mixed with say a pit bull, not so wild and a bit more protective.
I think that mixed breeds just aren't so extreme.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but your dog is a mutt. :dunno: 99% is not a purebred.
