Multiple Tanks Vs. One Single Tank

I'm a believer in quality over quantity. When I retire I'll have the time for both.

My tanks fulfill more a decorative role where aesthetics (as well as fish health, of course) are my priority.

Present circumstances dictate that I cannot possibly run more than two tanks.

I'll bet, high tech planted tanks are a lot of work.

I have 2 tanks right now a 10 and 20 gal. I would love to have more as I sure have the time if I had the $$$, if I had the room, if I could get hubby to agree; and if all the kids get their own places. Gotta wait on the last the youngest is still in grade school. Lots of ifs there huh?

I would love to have more tanks. Hopefully next yr i will have 4ish. My only drawback to getting more, my main job is in another town and im away from my tanks possibly 2-3 months at a time :( Just have to teach one of my family how to look after them :S

I prefer more tanks, but I don't like them all to be the same kind. I used to have a few community tanks, but I'm much happier having one, large community tank. However, my Cichlids would not mix well in the community tank, nor would my rarer Livebearers. My planted wouldn't work with my Cichlids, etc. So I like more than one tank, each a different kind. :)

I am once again mulling over this, especially as summer is right around the corner and I get especially busy. Any more ideas, and how do you people who have many tanks manage when you go away?

well i have 2 tanks soon to be 3 and 1 tank is a 2.5 gallon and teh other tank is a 14 gallon and i find them quite easy to keep neat and tidy

I want more, but my husband doesnt want me to. He thinks I have to much on my hands with my daughter, baby nearly about to be born, and all of my pets.

At the moment we have a 137G Pleco tank, 48G planted community tank, 48G marine tank, 7.5G Cuchlid tank and 4 Betta tanks! The 4 Bettas will be moved to a divided 24G in the next couple of weeks so that will cut them down a bit. I don't find them difficult to manage as we've got into a routine of cleaning them. Once a week we spend a couple of weeks cleaning them which we don't mind at all.
As for holidays, we have a neighbour pop in to feed them and we always do a water change before we go.

i like having one fairly large tank because you can spend more money and better equipment on one main tank so its obviously going to be better. sometimes id like to have more tanks-but then again i like improoving and buying new stuff for the tank i already have:) ive got a spare tank i kept especially for breeding but i was thinking of either making it a dwarf puffer tank or a betta tank whatdya think people?! :good:

I think it's partly a question of what you define as "better". For me, being able to keep and breed a new rare species is better than having a visually attractive show tank, or a very high-tech tank, which doesn't really interest me. So multiple tanks is definitely the way to go.

I've had as many as 12 tanks, mostly larger ones (the main tanks were a 300 gal, 2 125 gals, and 4 55 gallon tanks, as well as a bunch of smaller ones. My 'weekly' maintenance started to take way to much of my free time not to mention the $300 power bill living in a cooler area in the US. I downgraded to just the 300 gallon tank a few years ago. Now I have the bug again, and resisting getting another tank or two as I see deals pop up. Somehow I forsee 3 tanks again in my future. Thinking of a 300 gallon saltwater across from the africans, and maybe a planted tank in the middle..

Not sure Im ready to give up my weekends again though.

Ive got 2 and want 4, but I do like to see my tanks and since getting my bigger one I dont see as much of the other. Eventually I think Ill have 2 large tanks but only been keeping fish 18months and want to experiance different ones.Hence I want a new bigger tank now!
