Hi just wondering if anyone else has the same life as me when it comes to cleaning mulm from the sand. On a weekly basis I us a 1/4" pipe and Hoover round into a bucket but the next day it looks like I haven't even bothered! Lol my fish arn't over fed or over stocked it just seems like I haven't bothered and it's not just in one nice easy place to get to either! Tried banking the sand but that didn't work. What's your method? Thanks

Hi, I asked this question a few weeks ago - keeping sand pristine is a nightmare! I got some good tips - http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?/topic/339583-fighting-a-loosing-battle/

I use a syphon but am looking at getting a powerhead soon to push it all toward the filter intake.

Get some snails especialy MTS. They eat up leftover food includiing fresh veg and sift through the sand every day. I rarely need to vac my sand substrate livebearer community tank as the snails keep it spotless

Most of those are algae eaters - why would they eat poo?! Afaik, the snails don't eat poo either, but they do turn the mixture of sand and muck over so that it's all mixed in together and not so obvious.
