MTS is contagious

When that 12 step MTS support group gets going, let me know! I got given a tank last July, I'd never kept fish before or even thought about it. Now I've got 4 in the lounge and 3 in the kitchen and I'm even thinking about getting one to keep at work cos I've run out of room at home.....

People, let me stand up and introduce myself.... my name's Sarah and I'm a fishaholic....

LOL

I just now decided to upgrade Amos to a 5 gallon from a 2.5 gallon. (it's 11:14 a.m. and i'm leaving soon to go to the store to pick up the new tank at 11:30 - i can't WAIT).

The only reason why only Amos is getting upgraded and not the other 2 is because Amos is at work (the other 2 are at home) and I won't get any flack from anyone about getting "yet ANOTHER tank for the fishes".

I hadn't thought much about one at work but now I'm looking at my desk and trying to figure out what I don't need so I can put a tank there (I think I've already found a corner 22" x 24", maybe a 5 gallon???). What do you do about feeding the ones at work when your not there (weekends)?

Well, I did it.
I got the COOLEST tank decor.
it's a palm tree -

Well, i can' really describe it very well so i'll take before and after pics when i get him moved over. Man, he has no idea what he's in store for.
yeehaw :kana:

If you have a betta, they get along just fine w/out being fed over the weekend. In fact, lots of people say you should skip one day a week of feeding them because they tend to get overfed.

Technically they could go for a few weeks w/out being fed (although I HIGHLY don't recommend that).

I was just at PetSmart and they have AWESOME 5 gallon corner tanks, and I think it was somewhere in the 45$ range, complete with filter. I almost got one of those but opted for a 5 gallon hex tank rather because I don't have a good corner to put him in.

I could probably work out a corner on my desk to put one. The 5 gallon hex tank I have at home for a hospital/quarantine tank would probalby work great. I haven't ever used it and am dying to put something in it. There's not much other than a betta that can be put n a 5 gallon, maybe a couple shrimp. I'm not into frogs.

Yeah, sadly enough that's about all that can go in there.

I shudder to think back when I used to have 2 bleeding heart tetras, a pictus catfish and some mollies in a 10 gallon tank (back before I knew any better) with no heater.

The thing is that they (all but the mollies) lived for several years in that thing perfectly happy and content. I guess they never knew any better. I rarely ever changed out the water or paid any attention to them except to throw some food in.

Man, my betta is getting a 5 gallon filtered, heated tank today.

If only I knew back then what I know now.
-_-

You know what is so bad about all of this? I got hooked on a tank I bought for my wife as a Christmas present. She is very content to let me do all the work and all she has to do is watch the fish. I want a BIG tank for home, at least 75 gallon and I also want a saltwater tank. My wife also wants a saltwater tank. I guess I'm going to have to get a second job to afford our habit and have to get my floor reinforced to support all the extra weight of water. This is truly a disease. Sign me up for Fishaholics Anonymous as soon as you get the chapter started.

Hi! I'm Bob and I'm a fishaholic. :D

Now I'm SUPER pissed.
When i went into PetSmart earlier today and bought my 5 gallon hex tank, I noticed the box had been opened. I asked the woman working there if they had any more in the back, and she asked why I wanted to know when there was one on the shelf. I told her that it looked like it had been used or returned. she said (and i'm quoting) "Oh, no - that was me, I have a bad habit of opening tanks and assembling them so customers can see how the filters work."

so, I said okay and bought the thing.
Brought it back to work and was just taking it all out of the box and going to assemble everything. Guess what I found in the box. A return receipt for this tank, which states on it that the aquarium had been returned because it was damaged or broken. UUGH I was severely irritated. So is Amos because now he has to wait til Friday when a truck brings more in.

:flex: Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaahr!

This is the same idiot who told me that live plants will kill my bettas.

I am very lucky in that the 2 PetSmarts I go to (one near work, one near home) both have some very knowledgable people. Most of them are young and have tanks of their own. I was also suprised last week to see that they had cucumbers, zuchini and some kind of lettuce in the tanks for the fish to eat. I never see a dead fish in any of their tanks except their feeder fish. WalMart, on the otherhand, is another story. More dead fish than live ones in some tanks and no one around at all.
