You need to watch a Christmas episode of South Park to understand the reason behind the naming :p

Given the fish's shape and colour, I think Mr Hanky is a great and appropriate name!

Nice fish CFC, but out of all the name you could have picked, it had to be one about a talking, singing dancing poo

I love em! What size do they grow to? What do they eat?
I believe that this is the dwarf electric catfish Malapterurus microstoma so it should only grow to a maximum of 24 inches in captivity and probably smaller. They eat small fish and aquatic invertabrates in the wild so the best foods are whitebait, cockles, mussels and shrimp, mine takes all of these greedilly
Only 2 feet? Thats very Dwarfish.

Great fish CFC.

Can I ask how much he costs, ive been thinking of getting one but worried about the electric shock as its about 350 volts isnt it? have you been shocked? were you ok? and is he ok with other tank mates?

thanks

I only paid £12 for this one, it had been marked up at £40 but since it had been in the store for over a year they decided to reduce the price drasticly and at £12 i couldnt resist.

They can apperently shock with about 400v with large adults being able to reach up to 500v but as the ampage is quite low (less than 1 amp) it isnt enough to kill a adult person. I have been shocked twice, both times on the day i bought it, the first time was in the car through the bag where it sent a shock up my leg when the mrs had to break hard and the second time was later that evening when i was trying to reposition the heater in its tank which had come unstuck from the glass. The shock wasnt bad, just a little stronger than a static shock really.

I wouldnt advise any tankmates, mine is in a species tank and will stay that way, the shocks are powerfull enough to paralize much larger fish and easily kill smaller ones so it just isnt worth the risk.

Has he shocked you yet , I mean like when you are doing maintainence on the tank .

odd this should get dragged back up to top,

i think he's so cool, maybe you should stick an electric eel in there and watch the sparks fly

by the way what size tank has he got?

Mr Hankey currently has a 30x12x15" tank to himself which is a little small but quite ample for a fish that spends most of its life sitting in one place waiting to be fed, once the fish house is built he will most likely be moved to a 48x15x15" which should hopefully house him for life.
