Given the fish's shape and colour, I think Mr Hanky is a great and appropriate name!Phantom Thief said:Something needs to be said, though...

Nice fish CFC, but out of all the name you could have picked, it had to be one about a talking, singing dancing pooCFC said:You need to watch a Christmas episode of South Park to understand the reason behind the namingPhantom Thief said:Something needs to be said, though...

Only 2 feet? Thats very Dwarfish.CFC said:I believe that this is the dwarf electric catfish Malapterurus microstoma so it should only grow to a maximum of 24 inches in captivity and probably smaller. They eat small fish and aquatic invertabrates in the wild so the best foods are whitebait, cockles, mussels and shrimp, mine takes all of these greedillyDannyBoy17 said:I love em! What size do they grow to? What do they eat?
Has he shocked you yet , I mean like when you are doing maintainence on the tank .CFC said:I only paid £12 for this one, it had been marked up at £40 but since it had been in the store for over a year they decided to reduce the price drasticly and at £12 i couldnt resist.
They can apperently shock with about 400v with large adults being able to reach up to 500v but as the ampage is quite low (less than 1 amp) it isnt enough to kill a adult person. I have been shocked twice, both times on the day i bought it, the first time was in the car through the bag where it sent a shock up my leg when the mrs had to break hard and the second time was later that evening when i was trying to reposition the heater in its tank which had come unstuck from the glass. The shock wasnt bad, just a little stronger than a static shock really.
I wouldnt advise any tankmates, mine is in a species tank and will stay that way, the shocks are powerfull enough to paralize much larger fish and easily kill smaller ones so it just isnt worth the risk.
