Hi there,

At the end of next month i'm moving house! As you can see i live on the Isle of Wight at the moment. I'll be moving over to Dorset. We've got about a half hour drive to the boat, half hour or so on the boat then about 45 mins the other side!

What i need to know is the best way to move my Red-Bellied Piranha, Albino Tiger Oscar, 6 Raphaels & A Common Plec. I'm so nervous about moving them! All the other fis in my sig are going to a friend with a large community tank!

sealable plastic buckets.

the water should keep its temperature quite well in a larger volume.

If you are worried, get a 12v-240V inverter and run a heater in the buckets while your in the car  swap it about every now and again and you'll be fine.

If you want to keep the filter bacteria alive, put the filter in another bucket with water in it and run that from the inverter too :)

P.S. Good luck...

We're packing at the moment too (6 tanks is not going to be fun) but we're only moving 20 mins down the road.

We're moving 3 of the largest tanks to my parents and lumping the stock together for a few weeks untill we have got tank space sorted out at our new home :)

Thanx for that..... I've also been advised to get those polystyrine boxes to keep some heat in! With the plec & Raphaels i'm thinking i might need to put them in 3 or 4 bags each because of their spikes though!

I hope none of them get sea sick on the boat!

ask at you local shop... we've now got about 8 of the poly boxes... the only thing is that polystierine is not actually water tight... the balls are not always touching and leave very small gaps for water to work its way out.

Fill one up and check it dosnt loose water (leave it over night)

We are going to bag up our fish and then put them in the boxes.

our 10" plec is a different story. he wont be going in a bag... we'll be looking for a decent sealable bucket to put him in.

The bucket doesn't sound like a bad idea actually, although my plec isn't very large at the moment. Would there not be a lot more movement in the water in a bucket than in a bag though?

You could dump them all in the drink and tell them to meet you on the other side.

Teasing.
Good luck with your move!

How can a fish get seasick?
