Moving House

bit more info would help. What exactly are you wanting to transport?
Tank size, fish etc?

Actually in transport I'd try and keep them 70 and above... The coral can go into a dormant stage during transport, so I wouldn't worry about temp that much. Just ask your LFS for one of their extra styrofoam shipping containers (may have to go in on order day there) and use some of those. Covered styros will keep your temps still above 75 for at least 5 hours under most conditions.

ok, just making sure. Were planning on moving from south florida to north Alabama in a year or so...Like a 5 hour drive..not sure.

Good luck on the move though Allen. Hope its successful. ^_^

Remember to keep your live rock in water to prevent die-off and a possible mini-cycle.

If i move house again ill just sell up and start again with a new tank. Good excuse :hey: :fun:

My plan is....

Put all live rock and substrate in 70L dustbin with water from the tank. The water should come about halfway up the bin and cover all the rock.

Im hoping to put a heater in the bin and run it off an inverter from the cigarette lighter.

My plan then is to bag the fish and float them on the surface of the water so the warm water keeps the bags warm.

Secure the lid to the bin and strap the bin down in the car.

I have 150 Litres of mixed water and should be able to get everything in fairly quick at the new place.

Will hermits and snails that are hiding in the rocks be ok in the bin if i make sure the rocks cant shift ?

fill up the bags with pure oxygen if its going to be a while. Maybe ask your lfs for some oxygen or something. If you have your own oxygen tank then maybe halfway perform a water change in the bag and fill it up with fresh oxygen. Keep it dark in there.

Im hoping to put a heater in the bin and run it off an inverter from the cigarette lighter.

Make sure the heater is no stronger than 100 watts

TBH, in the summer, heat is the least thing to worry about. Most car interior temperatures are in the 70s which is just fine for transporting corals. I'd be more concerned with Oxygen, so just don't seal anything.

summer heat -lol - im in the UK.

thanks for the tips, will let you know how it goes.
