I have this weird phobia of my house catching on fire from something like a fish tank heater catching on fire and I refused to buy one. I keep my house at 77 degrees (we’re very well insulated) and my tanks have been staying around that temp. However now we have to turn it down because my husband gets too hot at night lol so now I’m left with needing heaters for my bettas. I need heater that is reliable, isn’t going to kill my fish, or burn down my house lol. I have a five gallon and a couple 3.5 gallons (which eventually will all be transferred to 5 gallons).

I like Eheim heaters if you can get them in the US. But they might be too long to fit a 3.5 gallon.

Interpet heaters are another great choice. But, those may be to long.

I find the very simple Tetra heaters to be safe and affordable. They are also not that big.

Fluval E-series have good reviews (and i have one) but it does kick off if you don't have enough flow around it. If you can have it placed directly after your filter outlet, its a great heater. The reason it kicks off is because it has some safety features, such as automatically turning itself off if it senses it is out of water

If you’re in the US, Amazon has a lot of them but they’re taking a long time to arrive, all petsmart small heaters are sold out in my area. Petco has some. I wouldn’t be able to tell you what size to get because I’m trying to figure that out myself for my 3.5 gallon guppy tank.

I would only ever use Eheim, I consider them the most reliable over the years. Your fish depend on your heater, you don't want it to pack up. I have Eheim heaters that have been working for more than 15 years
