Ichi is always swollen now. I'm wondering if he has some kind of disease. How long does it take for Dropsy to take a fish over? His scales aren't sticking out or anything, but he can't ever swim down.. some days it's worse than others. I don't even know if it has anything to do with feedings or not. I hardly feed him anymore because I'm afraid it will kill him. He can't seem to handle anything- 1 worm, 1 pellet (soaked).. everything makes him swollen and sick. And peas don't help anymore.

It's so sad. He wedges himself between the aquarium glass and the filter, curling himself around one of the suction cups. When I approach, he'll wobble over and stare at me.. but then he always goes back to the suction cups and drapes his body over them. I wonder if it's the most comfortable place to be in his state.

When I got him, he was great! He was very healthy and active and had quite an appetite. But then got swollen once, then again, and now it's just all the time.. What is WRONG with him???

that sounds like droopsy alright.. i'm sorry to hear that but not knowing what he looks like it may be worth treating him if its early enough.. i've never had sucess curing droopsy but i always used either marycin or marycin2 i hope this turns out ok for you.. good luck

I just don't get it though.. he's completely fine right now. No bloating today and he can swim great. If he follows the normal pattern, he'll be huge by tomorrow.

Very odd  Can think what may be causing this.

Why do soak the pellets?

I've read that sometimes Bettas bloat because they eat dry pellets and then they swell in their bellies. If you soak them first, this won't happen. Doesn't help my fish though.

With the Hikari betta gold and Atisons Betta pro we never soak them. Its just the freeze dried stuff that some people soak.

he dosnt look good at all..by the looks of him i think he may have a parasite.. i'm not positive though... is he eating at all? if he is you could try antiparicitic food.. i myself have never tryed it.. and i always recomend frequent water changes in fish this sick looking, try changing a little water every day.. do it very slowly so to not stress him out any more

also he's floating at the top and having trouble swimming.. could it be swim bladder? is that what it's called... i'm not sure if there is a remedy for that ... good luck.. i hope he pulls through

Very peculiar

He doesn't appear overly bloated in the vid, but i did notice that the gills appeared inflamed? I cant see anything externally abnormal on him. IMO i would try an internal infection meds? But i'll see if i can get a second opinion.

Dosn't look good does he. It might be to late for him.
Epson salt baths to help draw the fluids out.
When did he last go to the toilet and what did it look like.
Inflamed gills can be bad water quality, gill flukes, bacterial gillrot.
Check water stats.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing if not treat with a internal bacteria med.

I had a betta that was in a similiar condition.

I isolated him and and for several weeks changed his water everyday.

I kept him in a pretty much an empty tank so that I could remove excess food, excrement etc.

He pulled through and is still as daft as a brush.

The strangest part about this is that he'll be like this for a day or two straight.. and then randomly I'll find him swimming around just fine for a little while. I'll go out and come back and he'll be floating like that again for several more days. I thought he just couldn't deal with eating, so I haven't been feeding him much.. and I never see him go to the bathroom.

Something is telling me that it's a digestion problem.. like there's food stuck in him that can't get out or something. He does better after not eating for long periods, but it makes him really inactive and sad. When I do feed him, the next day he'll be just as the video depicts. I try feeding him peas. I think it helps.. I just wish I knew what was going on here!

The water is fine. And I don't know how he could have gotten a parasite.. (from a blood worm??)

It is a flippin odd case

Bloodworm can introduce parasites, as can virtually anything you add to the tank. Have you tried just simple flake food?

I'm just clutching at straws really, as i have no idea

I have fed him just about everything.. and it always happens. I used to be able to give him a lot of food, and he was doing really good! 3-5 blood worms twice a day! He was making a bubble nest and everything! When I put him into the bigger aquarium (2.5 gal) it freaked him out and he flared at his own reflection for 2-3 days straight. I tried everything to get him to stop doing it, in fear that it would wear him out and make him sick. I covered all the glass with fake silk leaves and still, he would find his relfection somewhere and flare at it (the surface of the water.)

Then it started to happen. I fed him soome blood worms and came to check on him later that day and he was swimming like the video. He was like that for 3 days. I then fed him a pea and he was fine within a few hours. Now it's a strange cycle of bloating and normality.. I can't even feed him 1 pellet without it occuring. 1 pellet, 1 flake, 1 worm.. even the peas make him bloat now.

Do you think he's in pain? What should I do if this keeps up?

Hmmm, I would give the Anti-internal bacteria meds a shot. "Is he in pain"? Sometimes i wish they speak, it would be so much easier.

Try the meds, it wont do any harm :good:
