More Petri And Joule Antics

You don't remember anything dodgy about Pompeii?? Pfft, obviously your tour didn't go by the brothel . The wheel ruts in the stone road outside were particularly deep in front of it, so you know it got plenty of business. There were lovely paintings on the walls so you could just point to what you wanted :fun:

Ancient Rome was an extremely efficient, very modern culture. What a selection of goods and services! :hey: It's a shame that volcano had to come along and ruin everything! :-(

Petri and Joule are so damn cute, you've almost gotten me over my fear of birds!
(Not quite though )

Lol Naughtygirlrlw, they've almost gotten me over my fear of birds!!

Seriously, I wouldn't handle them without gloves for the longest time, their bites hurt and it takes a long time to build trust (both their trust for me and vice versa). I'd had bad experiences with an evil cockatiel in the past, so although I've always liked birds, I wasn't able to really get past that and handle them much (outside of budgies, which are harmless, lol) until Petri.

Joule is ok, she only gives warning nips and would never try to seriously hurt you unless provoked, but Petri gives it all he has got. Working with him and overcoming and lot of his problem behaviours has given me a lot of confidence though, enough that I think I am ready to begin saving up for a medium-sized bird of my own (I've got a galah cockatoo in mind, so I'll be saving for a while!) I still don't really want to handle a larger unfamiliar bird unless it has been thoroughly demonstrated to be friendly, but if I were get an unweaned chick like I want and wean it myself, that bond would be very strong and I'd be very comfortable with that bird. I don't care what anyone says, I've weaned birds in the past and it's definitely easier to get them to bond to you this way . I don't think I'll ever want a macaw or anything even close to that size though, that sucker could crack your finger like a peanut!!

Funny, you mention macaw. There was a baby one (with emerging pin feathers) at my LFS. They do birds and rodents too. The breeders were getting it acclimated to humans. They were rubbing it's belly, and that bird looked like it was in HOG HEAVEN! I agree, though, those birds CAN crack your finger like a peanut and they also live forever and a day!

Galahs are gorgeous, but expensive, you're going to be saving for a while.
