On the 9th of this month, Gemini had 3 babies. I actually didn't think she was pregnant as her gravid spot wasn't its usual fully dark color. The 3 little ones didn't appear premature in anyway and have since grown loads! Today, exactly 1 week later, she is birthing more... not sure how many we are up to at the moment, I'm guessing about 10. I've managed to net a few and place them in the mesh box but several are managing to hide really well in the plants and ornaments.

I am 100% sure they have come from the same guppy (there are only two females in my tank). I've not had this happen before, what causes this?

once a guppy is pregnant she stays that way for quite awhile and should contiue to give birth every couple of weeks for a month or 2. thats why a lot of people say if you have male and female guppies you better be ready for babies and a lot of them.

Oh, I've had them for awhile and have had loads of babies before (only have two since I had a tank disaster not long ago).

The female that has given birth used to be like clockwork for giving birth (she has had 5 batches since I got her... including this one that seems to be split in half by a week). I assume she is on the older side as she is HUGE... as in 4 inches long. Anyhow, previously, she has always begun giving birth on a predictable date, started in the morning after feeding time and finishing by the end of the day. There was a much longer period between batch 4 and the 3 from batch 5 born 1 week ago... then its just odd she kept the rest in and is birthing them now.

My guess is that the previous fry were from your other female. Whats the reason you do not think it was the other female?

Could it have been the other females first drop?

I have 4 females, 2 which were newly pregnant and still not dropped babies, and another who went on to drop her first ever batch (which was really big!) after my oldest (her mother) dropped her batch in three stages.... which has never happened before.

The 3 Amigos, (who were born first) are hers for sure as they are identical now that they are coloring up to her older babies... then she had more a week later which I witnessed some of them happening... then a couple weeks later I witnessed more!

Guppies, mollies and other livebearing fish sometimes do end up producing eggs allowing them to be fertilized and produce more as the eggs are developing and then they get developed , really shes having 2 pregnancies in one but gives the idea shes having 1 pregnancy. also some of them have the amazing ability to hold onto fry for up to 3 months  i had a blonde creame guppy and she never had babies before she was fully virgin, i mated her with a tuxedo flame and wow! she grew and kept going and going until she was basically a golf ball, im serious she wasnt off by much, she was 5 inches and about 4 months old. 3 months passed and i paniced then i noticed her squaring off and i decided all males be removed and allow her birth in peace, she gave birth to 214 babies that evening, all in perfect health, i kept a male from the batch and gave the rest to my store in return they gave me 4 of there best creame females and a birthing net? (which i never opened) and ever since shes been infertile :/ but hopefully the male will pass that down if its genetic or hormonal :)

Never mate anything again with that tux!!! Rolf 214!? the poor dear. She did a great job.

Wow! I don't know what I'd do with 214 at one time!!!

That is interesting to know -that they can develope at different rates in the womb- that must be what it was. She is my oldest female and really large in general.

what planet are you on 5 inches at about 4 months old i wonder if you can count propaly lol

no this guppy was the result of always picking the biggest male and female from batches she was really big and always chased males away until i got that one, there was 32 females in that batch so i was guessing the father was more a male sperm donor which can effect the fry but its recessive to have the all male sperm gene so shouldn't be a bother. Miss her :/ (btw she had died about 2 days ago )all female fry are about 5 weeks now and already 2 inches i feed them infusorians and shrimp, i got a new tank and i am breeding blue shrimp so the babies will be used as food the ones that do grow get to breed with orange shrimp in 3 months :)the creame females are afread of the guppy fry as they gang up on the females when theres food lol their like a school of makeral :) they love algae so ive been adding some water fertiliser to inhance algae bloom on rocks for them to eat and they love it :D cant wait until the F2 generation.

You are so lucky
Ive only had 3fry in my hole life and they all died or got eaten
