Molly Fry

I was told about BBS but cannot find anywhere in my area that sells them. been to 7 different places an no one knows where to get them! the best alternative i have found is ickle daphnia.x

As said before, you can just really really crush up spirulina flakes, much much more beneficial than liquifry still! you can buy decapsulated brine shrimp eggs on ebay for very cheap, and they can be used to feed the main tank aswell.

Just thought of an evil plan to hatch my own bbs! looking on a well known auction site for kits. I have some algae wafers which i give to captain jack and mr whiskersons (gold banded plec and a catfish that the petshop told me would not get any bigger, idiots). Its says on the front with spirulina and vit c. Would that be sufficient once ground up for the babies? Please forgive my ignorance I'm only a beginner! (with both fish and forums)

What are peoples views on "NT Labs Brine Shrimp Hatcher Full Kits"??

This is the complete kit for hatching Artemia to feed to your fish. It contains the hatcher itself, suckers, and airline tubing for connecting to the airpump. Can be used in both freshwater and marine aquariums.

The kit contains:

5 salt rocks to add to freshwater making it suitable for hatching the shrimp.

1 x 10 g bottle of ARTEMIA REVOLUTION decapsulated eggs

1 x 10 g bottle of BRINE SHRIMP FOOD to grow the shrimps to adults if desired.

under a tenner new.

good/bad? something a beginner cannot mess up?

You can feed those crushed up wafers yes, just make sure you crush them up properly. There's a baby food ive just remembered called hikari first bites, its what i used for every single one of my batches of cory fry and they grew like wildfire.

But yes those kits are what lots of people use to hatch their own BBS :)

And also, dont worry about asking questions, thats what we're here for :)

I also have babies 10 black. 1 cremecicle I've managed to catch (those lighter ones are hard to see but soooo cute)

Funny thing is somehow my male got into the breeder net but he didn't eat any. So far everything I've caught is still alive.

I have some tetra min baby but I've found that my babies don't like feeding from the very surface of the water and prefer when it floats around their tank. The tetramin baby and spirulina don't seem to sink at all. Will certainly invest in a brine shrimp hatchery now though!

If you have a pinch in your fingers, put the tips of your fingers in and let it drop whilst its submerged, that way it will sink.
Or, premix some in a spare eggcup or something, put a pinch or two (you really dont need much) into the cup with a teaspoon of water, and swish it around, then pour a tiny amount into the tank, again, this way it will sink.

My mollies, well, my girlfriends mollies won't stop having fry. We seperated the males and females ages ago too. Have too many fry and I am now taking nothing to do with them. I had mollies years ago when I first started fish keeping. My girlfriend wanted them again and won't let me give them or the fry away.

From what i have read mollies will give birth then process another batch that has been stored. So they will give birth twice after one mating session.

Not 100% on this but i read it somewhere.

my male molly jumped into my breeder tank in my first attempt to raise frys. Absolute massacre :(

I read something like that too! they can have 4 or 5 broods after only one mating or something like that x

Bought myself a brine shrimp hatchery that sticks to the side of the tank and can attatch your air filter too. Will be delivered in a few days (fingers crossed). I've never fed my fish live foods before and am getting quite sadistic about it :look: . I scoop out one daphnia and watch to see who gets it!

My bottom feeders have had a bit of a domestic this morning. Captain jack (gold banded plec) and sam(loach) used to be an item and lived together in their coconut house. But a couple of weeks ago mr whiskersons (catfish) moved into the tank and had an affair with sam. now they live together and poor captain jack has moved to behind my filter :-( . In case you haven't realised all my bottom feeders are gay!

It's like an episode of eastenders in my tank hehe

I kinda go a bit insane when it comes to animals! i have 2 cats at mine who I have taught to play peek a boo, fetch, jump up, lay down, bark and speak (not sure if " get off that kitchen counter this instant " classes as a trained skill)

My two cats who i had when i lived at home can lay down, speak and kiss!

I know....sad!!!
