Molly Fry 9/20/09

Hi Everyone, I am new and this is my first post.

This morning, I woke up, to see molly fry swimming around. I only managed to save 3, But atleast I have some.

I also have 2 pregnant guppies So I just cant wait...

But I have a question

How much/often do i feed them?

But I was so excited!!

Either get some fry appropriate food, or you can do what I do and I just grind my high quality flakes between my fingers and sprinkle it for them. Small amounts, several times a day will do. I tend to wait until they are swimming well (so I usually wait a day) before I feed them. Others may have a different method.

Thanks, I think I'll try that, And Thanks for the little info on when to start. Do you know, Or does anyone know how old til i can put them with their mom again?

I feed my molly fry at least 3 times a day and more when I have a day off to be able to do it. With all that feeding, you need to do partial water changes quite often to keep the excess food cleaned up. I use crushed flake food for my molly fry made from the same flake I give the adults. I also have some special growth food that I bought from a place on the internet. It is almost a powder and the livebearer fry do well on it. If all that you have in the tank is mollies, they are often safe with the adults but that is obviously not the case for you. A lot depends on what the other fish in the tank are as far as when the fry will be safe. With things like angels in the tank, they would need to be quite large while with only guppies and mollies they might be big enough as early as 2 weeks old. I isolate my big female into her own tank when she is getting close to a drop and I don't worry much about fry being eaten. This is a picture of her with her fry the day they were born. You can see that she is not much threat to them.
