OK my sick mollie still managed to give birth an yes she is looking better and acting more settled.

I managed to get 5 fry out of filter box and get them in breeding net. Gave them some crushed flake and all seems to have gone but not sure if guppys and platies have managed to suck through the net.

How often should i put a bit of flake in there for them ? and is a tiny tiny crushed pinch enough ?

Are female mollies likely to go off food while carrying fry, I know I said she was a little under the weather but I have not seen her eat for nearly 3 days since I had her but she is swimming about tank and seems more lively since the fry were born ?

Happy New Year

You should feed 4-6 times per day, if possible. A tiny crushed pinch is fine, but they'd be better off if you could feed some kind of high-protein food (Frozen/Freeze-dried/Live) once in a while too.

Yes, some fish won't eat before giving birth. They lose their appetite, so they won't eat the fry. Not all do, as I have some Guppies that have turned around and eaten them right away. :X

Happy New Year to you too! :-

i stir up the gravel in my fry tank and a bunch of little tiny specks come floating out and my fry go crazy for it.

i am not sure if this is a smart thing to do but my fry are about 1\20 of their future size and they almost have half color

My fry are all about 3/8 of an inch in length and are all jet black like the mother.

Bit of flake left in net but not seen them eating any but I guess they must be.

New fry tend to be very shy and you will probably not see them eating for a while. There will also be loads left over as their stomachs are tiny and they can only eat a tiny amount at a time.
I have my fry in a fry tank at the minute and the food which is not eaten as it falls in the water tends to be ignored when it reaches the bottom--at least by the very young fry
When I had my molly fry in the net I put in a bit of floating hornwort plant which provided cover for them until they got a bit more confident,They could also eat the tiny bits and bobs which live on it.If you can get any I find it a great plant for providing fry cover.Dont worry,my molly fry have grown at an amazing rate and are proper little fish now after 3 weeks
