When I started my cichlid tank about 8 months ago, I had 3 juli trans. and 3 yellow labs. I added a bristlenose soon after and sat back to survey my handiwork :) Everything was fine for a while - then the julis started to breed and breed and breed. :what: They became very aggresive  and my poor bristlenose forgot what the gravel was :( - he was relegated to hiding behind some of the rocks and was too scared to come out :( and I forgot what the yellow labis looked like :what: - they also took to hiding all the time. So, I decided to get rid of the julis and start a malawi tank only. :) No - I didn't flush them, or decapitate them :look: I sold them at an auction (got good money for them to) I had to take the tank apart to catch them  But eventually I got MOST of them (must have been about 30 all together - 3 adults and the rest fry) :=) I left behind about 10 -15 tiny weeny fry. Well, I got my malawis, and now have a very nice malawi tank. I thought that the fry would be breakfast for the much larger new fish that I introduced to the tank ;) but I was mistaken. About 7 of them survived :D and now are between 3/4 - 1 1/4" long. So far everyone lives in harmony  and I was wondering if I can keep the two different kinds together ;) or will I have to get rid of these as well. :( I hope that because they grew up with the others they will all be more compatible, but I know that you shouldn't mix and match malawis with tanganikans. :/

I have kept and still do keep Lamprochromis Lelupie and Juli. Marlerrie in with my Malawi's (Yellow Labs as all the others got swapped for less aggressive fish due to space limits) and they all get along fine but the fact that they all grew up together may have something to do with this? :what:

The only fish in with the above listed fish that are currently causing problems are the Kribs which are breeding (should have fry by morning  lol) and yes i know that i have a right old mix n match set up going on here but i have had to reduce tank numbers due to an imminant move of house and it is only a temporary measure lol ;) :D

Congrats may be in order to you as well gaz for taking the record for the most smilies in one post from me lol :p :hehe:  :hehe: :alien:

Hey Pete,
i believe you meant to say Lamprologus leleupi which has been reclassed to Neolamprologus leleupi.

:p Just about to do that but you beat me to it CM. Mac.

i think the mixing is fine as long as they get along and have the same diet requirements, generally malawis like a veggie.
