When I started my cichlid tank about 8 months ago, I had 3 juli trans. and 3 yellow labs. I added a bristlenose soon after and sat back to survey my handiwork Everything was fine for a while - then the julis started to breed and breed and breed. :what: They became very aggresive and my poor bristlenose forgot what the gravel was - he was relegated to hiding behind some of the rocks and was too scared to come out and I forgot what the yellow labis looked like :what: - they also took to hiding all the time. So, I decided to get rid of the julis and start a malawi tank only. No - I didn't flush them, or decapitate them I sold them at an auction (got good money for them to) I had to take the tank apart to catch them But eventually I got MOST of them (must have been about 30 all together - 3 adults and the rest fry) :=) I left behind about 10 -15 tiny weeny fry. Well, I got my malawis, and now have a very nice malawi tank. I thought that the fry would be breakfast for the much larger new fish that I introduced to the tank but I was mistaken. About 7 of them survived and now are between 3/4 - 1 1/4" long. So far everyone lives in harmony and I was wondering if I can keep the two different kinds together or will I have to get rid of these as well. I hope that because they grew up with the others they will all be more compatible, but I know that you shouldn't mix and match malawis with tanganikans.
