Miss Wiggle And Big Ian's First Marine Tank!

Thanks ski.

The rock anemomenomemenome didn`t like where we placed it so it decided to go for a wander and it atached its self to the front of the tank.

thanks, she's alright now, was just a bit scared last night. It's all looking a bit better this morning :)

thanks!

Good to hear. Properly acclimitizing corals should be done with the same drip method as used for fish, no big tricks there. If your tank's water chemistry is pretty similar to the LFS' then your corals will likely survive. You'd be surprised how hardy these things can be and how tolerant some species are of drastic chemistry changes. I had to dump my new giant palythoas into the tank when I was in a rush last week, but they pulled through just fine :)

corals seem fine, the big finger coral's properly starting to open up now, it's absolutely stunning, will get you a pic soon :D

on another thread someone mentioned we should frag the candy cane, some bits of it are shaded and however we turn it we can't get light onto all of it. so they said to take the shaded bits off and swap them

this is fine, our lfs will take anything (or if anyone nearby wants them just give us a pm)

but i haven't the foggiest how to do it, so a step by step guide would be great if somone can point me in the right direction!

:D

Take the candy cane out of tank and use a chisle to brack of one or more polyps at the base then use 2 part epoxy to reattach polps to rock

excelent, thanks mate....

looks like another DIY task for me this weekend....

Let me be more specific break or saw a stem off. Be carefull not to touch the flesh. they damage easily. Use two part putty and superglue. Build up the putty around the base of the stem after super glueing the stem to the rock.

Bla spelling

well we got our firefish last night :D

we hadn't bought him before cos one of the fish in the tank had died, but now 3/4 days later everyone in the tank is fine, no signs of disease or anything so we thought the one that died just didn't do well in transit. Happens sometimes. anyway we figured they would be poorly by now if there was a problem so we've gne ahead and got our first marine feeshy :D

did a drip acclimitisation for bloody ages, i got so impatient with it!

he seemed to settle in really well though, teeny bit of agression from the biggest clown straight off but he held his own and within 5 mins they'd stopped, he didn't run off and hide even, just wandered around exploring.

think he's probably gonna be called Mr Grumpy :D

can't wait to get home tonight to se how he's settled in :good:

Fabulous! that is great news! I hope he does well, what have you got in there altogether now?

YEY firefish :D. Cant wait to see pics of him 8) :shifty: ;)

i'll get some when he's not hiding, he's right at the back of the LR stack at the moment, i can see him sort of just about.... no way could i get a pic though

bugger bugger bugger!!

we've properly skint at the moment, knew the bulb on our metal halide was gonna need replacing and had hoped it would hold out until after xmas, then the last few weeks it's been really dodgy, so we were just hoping it'd hold out until i next get paid in about a weeks time.

then yesterday it completely failed to switch on when the timer went on, thankfully we managed to get it back on later that evening but it's definately not gonna last more than another day or so.

looked around the shops round here for another bulb, looking at 100 quid :S we simply don't have that, can scrape together about 50 if we raid all our savings etc, found the bulb on pet pirates for just 15 quid.... but delivery can take up to 10 days :/ just dropped them an e-mail begging them to do next day delivery or something like that for us, said we'd pay extra for it of course.

keep your fingers crossed for out acro! :X

does anyone know any decent online shops that will deliver really quick and don't cost the earth?

the bloke at our lfs said the stony will last about 2 days without lighting. it's had lioght from the halide every day, but only 4/5 hrs, the blue actinic's still working and has been on for 10 hrs a day.

what else can we do... if we switch the blue bulb for a normal white bulb will that make any odds or is it just not powerful enough to make any difference?

is just a few hrs a day MH lighting gonna be enough to keep it alive?

HELP!

Ah emergencies, how fun :). Ok the acro can be fine for up to 3 days with no lighting whatsoever provided temp and flowrate can be maintained (trust me, all 4 of mine survived 3 days when I had no power). My question for you is, how sure are you that the problem is the bulb and not the ballast? How did you "get it back on"? By jiggling the bulb? If so then yeah its probably the bulb.

I'm confused though, you mention a "blue bulb"... Does that mean you have another bulb? If so, what type/wattage? I'd start using that immediately in supplimentation to your perishing halide. If you can keep your halide limping along on say even 2-3 hours a day you'll be in OK shape for about 5-7 days. I'd also try PMing some UK members here who might know like Chac, Matthew, or others that talk about halides a lot. They may know where to get one quick and on the cheap.

This page would be what you're looking for since I think you have a double ended 150. You'll probably do best with the 14k model (bottom left of the 4). Decent price, but dunno what their shipping is like.
