Misconceptions About Fishkeeping?

Here's a couple of loop holes:
1. Main tank.
2. Your first tank or a "spare" that you'll "probably never use" just in case of emergencies.
3. Quarantine tank.
And that's how on a one-tank-limit, I wound up with three tanks.
im going to use my spare as a qt tank, but i was lucky enough to have no sick fish....

I don’t know why people think that Neon Tetras and Guppies can be kept in the same tank - no research has been done apparently...

Nobodys mentioned the big one.

" fish will only grow to the size of their tank"

Another misconception that needs to stop circulating is that goldfish are a low maintenance pet suitable for small children.
it is true, but not healthy, its stunting and that is baddddd

It's easy, they said, you will just need a bowl and change the water, they said. And here I am, I have probably spent £400 on my 18gallon and hours of reading and learning :rofl::rofl:

EDIT: Now that I'm counting, it's over £500

My dad's been telling me that one ever since I started fish keeping... That my plecos wouldn't grow big in my 54L since they "only grow to the size of their tank".
There are lots of fish that just keep on growing, no matter how small the size of the tank. This is what an lfs should keep in mind.

That could technically be true. They literally grow as big as a 54L tank :lol:
Maybe that's what he meant! ? But... Right now that tank's being used for guppies and to quarantine a couple of synos. My pleco lives happily in an almost-4ft-tank, but one day I feel like he'll have his very own tank.

The one inch per gallon rule is a very common misconception. This is a very informative thread which I highly recommend you read Why;you are a new hobbyist
