I currently have a "freshwater" stone/toadfish in a standard 55 US gallon aquarium.

I'm might be moving in a few months, and I wont be able to take the 55 gallon with me :(. So I was wondering what the minimum tank size would be for him to be happy when full grown, he's about 6-7in right now, think he gets a little bit bigger lol. Do you think a 20gallon (24L x 12.5W x 16.5H) would be sufficient? I'm guessing not. Not sure how much space he needs because he hardly moves from what I can tell, but he might be up and about at night so...

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance for the help :good:

Alright thanks :)

What tank size will I eventually need for him when he's full grown? I read a 40gallon somewhere, not sure if it's true or not though.

Do you have a picture of your fish?? I've never seen a Toadfish!
Why can't you take your tank when you move?

if he is by himself. Remember to give him some building materials. They construct homes and burrows.

Like driftwood, stone, and sand? I heard they burrowed but didn't know they moved the decor around, my 55gallon is pretty bare

He seem's to like the driftwood in the tank, gonna have to move that to the 20/30gallon. He sits under it all day, it's like a cave kinda.

There's a picture of him in my signature :)

Don't think there's gonna be room for the 55gallon at the new house :(

I've got two of these fellas which are about 7-8 inches each. They are in a 25gallon. They've been in there for 9 months and whilst it may not be ideal I don't look at them thinking I must get a bigger tank for them as they rarely move, even in the dark.

I've never seen them move stuff around and I have a sand substrate and slate and stone.

I do want a bigger tank though cos of the morays but for the toads I think you'll be fine
