I'm planning to get five. Would this be enough for them to feel comfortable and exhibit normal behavior?

Elsewhere I've read that the minimum is three, four, five, six or even seven.

Input would be appreciated. Oh, the tank is a 12 gallon.

Thanks!

Seeing as you haven't had an answer yet... 6 is generally considered the minimum, although the more there are the more natural they'll act and the better the effect.

6 is the magic number BUT, in fishkeeping, with the exception of paired fish, I always think odd numbers work bettter. So go for a minimum of 7. Some shops will sell you ten and give you the eleventh free, which IMO is an even better deal. (If you have the space)
