Hi i have a 18g tank which has been running for about 3 months and suddenly i have a cloudy water problem. My water stats are:

ammonia 0pmm

nitirite 0pmm

nitrate 40pmm (this is the lowest i can get it due to tap water readings very rarly goes sbove this)

Ph 7.5

i havnt cleaned my filter since cycling (fluval 105)

my tanks not overstocked (have 4 harliquins, 4 platys 2 guppies). all the fish seem healthy and happy

i have some plants in the tank (amazon sword and vallis) and i have started to feed them with api root tabs.

The water seems to be a bactiral bloom(milky white haze to it) but has been like this for about 4 days without any sign it is clearing up.

hope i have given enough information for anyone to give me any advise.
many thanks in advance as always

Hi, yes it is usually a bloom. It has happened to me a couple of times for no apparent reason. I used very fine cotton wool media and it eventually went in about a week. If you use that kind of media, rinse before using as it is dusty. :good: As you can see in my sig. all clear now!

Did you dechlore your water before putting it in?

lol yes i declorinate my water. ill try some fine cotton wool media see if that helps.Ilove crystal clear water!!!!

you've given the answer yourself, it's a bacteria bloom from adding extra nutrients in the form of fertilisers, the root tabs tend to take a little while to release into the substrate and water column so if you added them maybe a few days to a few weeks ago then that's your answer.

plenty of water changes over the next few weeks and it should go away by itself
