Hey people (this is my first post)
I'll give my little fish story in the hello section or whatever later. Im new to Aquariums, Ive just bought my second tank (like i said, i'll explain later). Ive had this tank running a couple of days, ive treated the water so im getting ready to put fish in! :) Im a little concerned with the glass. theres the odd line or two of erm, well, kinda white dirt (maybe lime scale or something)? Its not major but i was always under the impression a aquarium should be crystal clear? Is it just where i havent cleaned the tank properly, or where my tap water is dirty? It seems to be in lines, like as if where ive been filling the tank!
Any ideas anyone?
Im dying to get some fish in this thing! :D

You say you're treating the tank to prepare for fish, what are you treating with? sometimes bacteria blooms and things like that can cause algae or various parasites to take hold in the tank for a few days while the tank is cycling

Erm, Im just using the things that came in the kit. I think they are called Nutrafun Cycle and Nutrafin Aqua Plus if that helps.
These marks were there before i added these treatments so i can only assume its stuff from our tap water?

it could be, or literally just dirt on the inside of the tank, i try and give new tanks a scrub before setting them up.

just get a new washing up sponge (ones with the spongey side and the scrubby green side) and gently scrub at it, if it comes back it's a problem, if not it's just a bit of muck!!

also i'd have a look at the pinned topic about fishless cycling :good:

Ok cheers, will do!
So now, just actually, go get a dish sponge and scrub the tank walls till its gone? Wont that effect my running tank?

yeah, you've no fish in there right? so nothing to affect is there?? make sure it's a brand new clean sponge, if you get washing up liquid or any other detergent in there that could be bad, but just give it a little scrub and see if it comes off. if it won't come off immediately don't keep at it or you might scratch the glass.

No theres nothing in there but im dying to add fish to it! Its been going for a couple of days now. Apparently im good to go?

I'll use a brand new sponge, boil it first. Im guessing this will do the trick, it just looks like dirt, I just wanted to check, didnt wanna do anything bad to my tank as its about time i got a nice tank going (see my hello post). :)

Hi,
I had those marks when i set my tank up. I used a magnetic tanks scrubber (approx £5.00) much easier than put your hand in to the tank and it polishes the outside at the same time!!

I would leave your tanks for a while yet before you add fish or maybe just a couple of Danios!

no, your not good to go, did you read up about fishless cycling.... this come BEFORE fish go in

the pinned topic's here, please read it!

 i have these marks also? brown dirty marks???? i just clean it and myn has fish in the tank, so it is not harmful!!!
IM NOT SURE WHY ITS CAUSED THOUGH ALSO BUT EVERY TIME CLEANED IT RE APPEARS??? VERY ANNOYING! :shout:

Did the Klingon at your lfs explain tank cycling and water test kits to you?

PMSL  no, because they all want your money now, not in 2 weeks time when your tank is cycled, and when your fish die they can get more money off you.

I'm just cynical today towards fish stores, I politley pointed out today to an employee at a large chain of pets at home stores, that two Cichlids in the tank were beating seven bales out of each other, reply 'yeh, they can be aggressive'
