Meet Jaws.

I think its more than 1.1 ton, as 100gallon is 1 metric ton, and at over 200gallons your looking at a lot more wait than that.

The tank just blags my head, watching the vid my head is saying nice marine tank, and then another part of the brain is going "What the hell! thats a clown loach! wait they're not marine fish in there! cichlids?! eels, Polypterus Senegalus!!!"
it is impressive and it makes me want to upgrade to a 10' soon, too many people with 4-6'tanks now :D I need to go bigger hehehe!!

lol I know what you mean, even when I look at the video, it appears like a marine tank then you see something familar like a clown loach lol.

Also the weight could be a lot more, a friend said 1.1tonn but I cannot recall what he calculated or even if he was correct.

In regard a 10ft tank, good luck with that, damn  , I thought this one was hard enough lol, I am guess at that size you could be looking
at having that built in situ if you are serious about it.

if your floors are concrete you will be fine, don't put it upstairs as you'd need to re-enforce the floor like they do in bathrooms under the bath.

I would imagine you'd need a structural surveyor to check out the floor for you, if your unsure.

Ahhh am no sure. I know its chipboard but not sure what under that. This house was renovated and i know we are built ontop of a coal mine lol :hyper:

I am sure one of my neighbours builds houses for a living might speak to him.

Zoe :good:

sounds like he would know Zoe, I know it sounds like major work to us, but I think to a builder it is not too difficult nor would it take too long

I doubt chip board would take the weight, youd have the get the floor re-enforced but dont take my word for ti, get it checked out.

As for the 10' thats what I am hoping for in my fish house (when i get a house this year) obviously the tank wont be around for a few years yet. but it'll be built on site, and it wont be glass, it'd be plastic, perspex type construction. As I think 6' is like a max length for glass in tanks before you need extra supports and i wouldn't want to risk it exploding

I have a lof of big fish, so they're gonna need the tank space later in life, hopefully summit like 10x3x3' i think would be the dream size.

plus a lot of normal sized one for breeding and smaller species ;)

oh the possibilities...

I've done a bit of research and actually your right, the information i was given was complete hash lol, 1 ton = 2000lbs and 1gallon of freshwater = about 8lbs, so therefore 250gallons would be 1 ton.

Wow heavy stuff

Its more my hubby who is concerned about the weight.

Tell ya what he better not bring up the conversation today, (day 3 off stopping smoking) Feeling a rather bit touchey

Zoe

day 3, well done. You hold in there, think of all the extra cash for tanks and fish :good:

Id be concerned as well though, as just to put in prospective, you could probably break chip board with one swift kick, and with a kick you only talking about pounds not tons.

and thats a lot of water damage if the floor gives out.

I am JUST Surviving

The owner from my LPS has been in my house and he says floor would be ok.

Will try speak to neighbour today.

Zoe :good:

yeah I wouldnt take a LPS/LFS word for it, get a professional in, someone who is qualified to pass judgment on structures.

Most LPS/LFS will sell you a goldfish bowl, a common plec, an oscar and a goldfish and tell you they'll be fine...

Not being funny, just dont want you to regret the big tank and destroy your home because of someone who walks the walk and talks the talk but knows jack about it really.

I Trust my Lps. He even said he would replace any damage he that confident floor would be ok. Its just hubby goes on about it. so was thinking if i got someone in to look to put his mind at ease.

My LPS doesnt sell 6 footers so i know he not saying floors will be ok just for me to buy one of his tanks.

right ok, i wouldnt trust him. And i'd get it in writing and signed by him about the damage then.

As for a 6ft DO NOT buy shop made tanks, they will cost you the earth, its SO much cheaper to get them custom built.

It onyl cost me £450 inc Delivery from down south to me (nr Chester) for my 4x2x2' inc Stand and hood, with the extra holes i requested. Tanks of the same size in the shops I've seen at about £1000 and more.

congrats on the no smoking, i quit in Nov last year, came off the patches early Dec, seemingly doing ok, albeit did buy myself a new car when I gave up......to assist me of course lol

i still find that i become  grrrrrish at times lol i do miss it, even more so when you watch a film or something and they are smoking and it seems all so good  ok, moving on lol

you have the same dilema as me about weak floorboards I can't have a large fish tank as I have weaker floorboards then usual, damn dad should've asked for extra strong ones when my room was being built

So far it's coping with a 9gal on my desk, a 39gal at the other side of my room and a 48" x 18 " x 18" Vivarium *no water* which is on my old Tv Unit.

floors should def be ok. I am collecting a 72x18x18 either this weekend or next week, has got a designer stand and hood, plus lots of filters heaters etc.

All for the price of £0.00. Just have to hire a van and collect really. So Excited. Dont think i will take the free 5 ft tank i was offered now, dont want to be to greedy

Zoe

on previous attempts at giving up smoking, my patches came off also, however I found out that the clear ones did this more often, and found that the normal brownish looking patches lasted longer.
