Mboooooooona!

I like that!

shame the planted tank went...

Is the rock limestone??

That is very strange Tizer, we both use Purigen and both use the same floss... And we even have the same filters! Mine is crystal clear, and i mean CRYSTAL! :S Weird.

I know the Ellioti concked it, but how did you find him to the FM's? My Firemouths are going tomorrow...

Thanks Man of Fish. I doubt i will be as active as i was before though.

Ian, thanks. It is a very big change from the planted setup it previously was. But as you and alot of people know i couldn't get it to look right no matter how i scaped it. The Ellioti was rehomed to someone from Leeds and was intending to show him so that was quite a nice feeling knowing he was going to get looked after the way he deserved. My mate had the Harlequins off of me and everything else got transferred to my other tanks. I am unsure what the stone is, but have been advised it is weathered limestone? It's what alot of places use in the big metal cage type walls etc. I have used it in all of my tanks at some point. Why?

Yeah I've not been as active in the past week or so either and prolly won't be, but I'll still be around maybe 30 minutes a day or an hour every other day, unlike the maybe 2 or 3 a day I used to do.

just wondered, i've not seen to many mbuna tanks done with limestone, and i have always thought it would be the stuff to use to bring the Ph up. It's also relatively cheap (when buying it!lol). It looks more natural than the other stuff you can get.

I have a few small pieces of ocean rock underneath it all, not much though. The PH just stays at around 7.2-7.4 whether it be in this tank or in my planted tanks that have a lot of wood in them. Lol!!! Maybe it's all just a con with the ph lowering/buffering

Some fish will be going at some point as there are way too many in here, but it will be a case of removing any excess sub dominant males as and when the need arises. May also up the filtration at some point although the stats are perfect etm and can't imagine them being any different in the near future.

I sat there looking at the water column last night and i think a lot of it is oxygen bubbles, which kind make a mist in the water. A little odd though.

The Firemouths are great, the large female is the bossy one, the other female tends to hide a fair bit, but the other 3 males are always trying to be top dog in front of the large female. They get along with the Bolivian Rams too, which initially tried to chase them, but then ended up being the ones that got chased. Not sure how long it will work keeping 5 of them in there, just hoping they pair off soon and i'll have to decide what to do with them. Two pairs would be ace.

'Gabions'. Great, now there's a retaining wall somewhere in Notts that's about to subside.

NIce tank BTW

After having planted setups for a while now, having an Mbuna setup is soooooo easy to look after. They're very clean and low maintenance tanks.

this is what I find really appealing about them. I thought I would be able to do planted - but I've never caught the bug and could not have a serious planted tank with all the trimming & pruning required to keep it look great.

Nah, I took the metal aswell stu and weighed it in to pay for the fish.

Pete, the firemouths sound great. How do the compare to your short lived ellioti?

ZZ, get it done, you know you want to.

I do want one, that's for sure.....but I simply can't see myself moving the current fish on. Too attached.

So in 8yrs time when the final angel pops it clogs, maybe then :)

They are the bosses of the tank now! The Ellioti i think just got picked on by the Bolivians, perhaps if i had put 5 in , they might have done ok, but at £14 a piece, or whatever it was, that could have been pricey!

8 Yellow labs
5 Blue cobalts
11 Socolofi

There is also 10 saulosi in there, but they're going in my 180 as a species tank.
