Hi,
Just been reading the latest edition of Marine World magazine and came across a little piece in the new equipment section.
It involves increasing the flowrate of your maxi-jet powerheads and pumps. I know that there are websites about that show you how to DIY this sort of job but to be perfectly honest the resulting job after the modification is not asthetically pleasing to look at.
Now there is a new piece of kit and a bracket made specific for this type of powerhead.
Its called Sure flow 1600 and Sure grip 50 respectively.
Its claimed that kit increased flow form a MJ900- 900ltrs per hour up to an amazing 6000 ltrs per hour, how massive is that.
The sure grip is the bracket which slots neatly into the existing bracket grooves on the pump head and is held in place by magnets.
I've posted this piece just to give folks out there the option of using a retro-fit conversion to their MJ's (400, 600, 900 & 1200) rather than throwing them on the scrapheap.
Prices quoted for the Sure Flow 1600 is £24.99 and the bracket Sure Grip is the same price.
Both products are distributed by
Midland Reefs.

I've never used the Sure Flo mod, although all maxi-mods that I've ever seen are ASTOUNDING in the amount of water they move! I modded a maxi 1200 myself (made the whole thing) and DAMN was it powerful. Was way too much for my 45g even by itself. Maybe if I had an acropora garden it would have done well, but not in my LPS tank. I have however used the Sure grip which also work very well on Seio pumps (same mounts on them). They are great pieces of kit, too bad Seio doesn't offer an option to sell their powerheads WITH the magnet grips...

I use a highflow kit from Triton aquatics on a maxijet 1200 in my 4 foot long 150 gallon, simply awesome. Works really nice on my seiowavetimer.

these have been around for a while here in the states, im probably going to mod a 600 for my 65 gallon tank, give the top a lot of flow for some sps.

LFS in my area are starting to use these in their tanks even.

wow, that does look alot better than the old mod they had for it... but it still uses the crappy suction cups. They should just make it have to be the magnets to get rid of the hassle of the powerheads falling off and blowing your tank all to sh*t.... especially when your increasing the flow by six fold... I would def want a more secure connection than suction cups...

on a second look, I guess you can buy the magnets as an upgrade... but like I said, should just get rid of the option for suction cups all together
