Mature Filter Media Donation Request

Anyone in or around Colchester willing to donate a little media to help get my granddaughter's tank up & running please?

The local guy that's volunteered in the dedicated thread isn't very active these days & hasn't been on for three weeks. And as a new member I can't PM him anyway.

My mother-in-law will be down in Bury St. Edmunds next Tuesday, she might be willing to take some down for you. I also sell plants, so you might be interested in getting a few of those at the same time (assuming that with cycled media you are going more for a slow stocking as opposed to fish-less cycle type of thing, although I highly recommend fish-less cycle over anything else). I am also willing to send the media by post as die-off should not be more than 50% and 50% cycled media is better than nothing!

In exchange, I ask for the same amount of ceramic bio-media out of your new filter, or some money to cover replacement media. For example, last time someone sent me one of their new Juwel filter baskets and I just replaced the media inside that with some of mine.

Thanks for the offer but BSE is a bit too far away at an 80 mile round trip. I'll give it a couple of days & then may take you up on the post offer if nothing local pops up.

She'll be sticking with plastic plants for now until we see how dedicated she is. I'm sure you know what kids & pets can be like...

What type of filter is the media for?

It's a Fluval U2 submersible. The media is a solid, light-weight pellet rather than the more substantial ceramic I last used 10 years ago.

I've been meaning to change my floss for a while now. I'm all the way down in Devon but if you struggle to find someone in your area I'd be happy to post to you if you cover the costs of the postage plus a little extra for the replacement media.
